You want some post-Breaking Bad news? Well, we’ve got some for you in the form of new information surrounding the spinoff series, Better Call Saul.

First up, we have some concrete details about the direction that the show will take. We were already well aware that Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman) and Jonathan Banks (Mike Ehrmantraut) are set to reprise their beloved roles from Breaking Bad, but now a recent AMC press release has put a fresh light on some new plot details.

According to the press release:

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in ‘Breaking Bad.’ The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “Criminal lawyer.” The series’ tone is dramatic, woven with dark humor.

We also now know that the cast will include Michael McKean as Chuck (Saul’s brother), Patrick Fabian as Hamlin, Rhea Seehorn as Kim and Michael Mando as Nacho. We don’t yet know the roles that these characters will play throughout the show, but according to the release, they “will represent both legitimate and illegitimate sides of the law.”

But that’s not the only sliver of information we have for you, dear readers. This next onslaught comes straight from the horse’s mouth … and by horse we mean television demi-gods Vince Gilligan and  Peter Gould.

Speaking on the Better Call Saul’s delay until 2015, Vince Gilligan had this to say:

“We could have made the deadline, but I am slow as mud … I still feel I’m very slow for television.”

While Gould added:

“We had a pace on Breaking Bad that was deliciously stately for television … we have a way of doing things that is slower than most television shows.”

Gilligan further explained:

“I thought it was going to be easy,” said Gilligan. “‘Oh, we know who this guy is.’ But we didn’t know this guy at all. He was a ing player. It’s an interesting process.”

Of course, there’s also been a lot of speculation as to which characters from Breaking Bad will be making an appearance, if any, in Better Caul Saul. Peter Gould had this to say on the matter:

“These are all characters we love, having said that, we’re trying to make something that stands on its own and has an entertainment value of not just seeing old favorites. It’s not a clip show. We try to balance these things out.”

Adding to Gould’s somewhat pessimistic answer on whether we’ll see characters as adored as Walt or Jesse for another time round, Gilligan said:

“I don’t think we’re giving anything away to say we’re still figuring this out — including if and when we’ll see some of these characters. We like nonlinear storytelling. I would point you in the direction of anything that was possible on Breaking Bad is possible on Better Call Saul.”

So, there you have it folks. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section and be sure to check out the latest images from the show above and below!
