The beloved anti-hero was thought to be appearing in 'Spider-Man 4'. ]]>

As the rumor mill continues to churn out speculation about a long-awaited Venom and Spider-Man crossover, Tom Hardy has come through with an official update. 3o6k5

Before you get your painties (or web-slingers) in a twist, I regret to inform you that it isn’t particularly promising news. Hardy, who portrayed Eddie Brock/Venom in Sony’s trilogy of the loveable anti-hero, addressed all the rumors of a potential onscreen collaboration with Peter Parker in a recent interview on The Discourse Podcast.

Since Spider-Man and Venom exist in the same universe — with the latter character even appearing in Tobey Maguire’s iteration of Spider-Man — the speculation of some form of crossover was well-placed. However, Hardy isn’t so sure it’ll ever come to fruition. “We got close,” Hardy said about a crossover with the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man. “We got as close as I could possibly imagine getting, apart from doing a film together.”

Later on, The Discourse Podcast host Mike DeAngelo asked whether “studio politics” had anything to do with the crossover being killed, and his response certainly pointed towards the affirmative. “[The project] never happened for all the reasons that you explained ultimately in there.” The actor didn’t elaborate on exactly what that meant, but he did express excitement at the idea of a crossover “for the kids,” who are the target market he had in mind for the hypothetical film.

“Fundamentally, for me, it would be for the kids,” Hardy said of why he wanted to do a Venom-Spider-Man project. “Because, you know, as much as adults love superhero films, as you can tell by the box office when they’re successful, I think I’m constantly reminded by children how important these characters are.” That, for Hardy, would be the main justification for a crossover, since children viewers “don’t know why their favorite characters aren’t in films together.”

News of the nixed Venom and Spider-Man project flies in the face of earlier promises made by those involved in the project. In 2019, Ruben Fleischer, who directed the first installment of the Venom franchise, confirmed to Fandom that the plan was always to build Hardy’s comic book franchise into a meeting with Holland’s Spider-Man. “That’s where it’s all going to lead,” Fleischer said at the time. He went on to reveal that the change in the origin story for the character of Venom “because of the Marvel-Sony thing” allowed him to envision a scenario in which Spider-Man and Venom “actually do confront each other.”

Seems like what Fleischer was hinting at in regards to Marvel and Sony’s dual ownership of Spider-Man might be the “studio politics” that Hardy mentioned. While we won’t see Venom in it, the installment of Holland’s Spider-Man franchise is very much moving along. Today, the name for the film — the fourth entry into the franchise — was revealed as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with a release date slated for July 31, 2026. Who knows, maybe by then Hardy will figure out a way to web-sling his way into Holland’s franchise, and we’d certainly be here for that!

Sony’s Spider-Man universe is a cinematic laughing stock. Just when it seemed Kraven the Hunter was going to change all that, audience and critics’ reviews (somewhat inevitably) proved otherwise. So not even Aaron Taylor-Johnson could save the SSU.

Over the years, Sony’s extended universe of Spider-Man villain movies has been underperforming. The studio has made valiant attempts to capture the glory of the MCU before it, but it looks like Sony might be ready to throw in the towel, because even the CEO’s flabbergasted.

Kraven the Hunter’s box office flop 2d1j4m

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven, the movie set out to explore the his complex relationship with his father. However, despite the considerable star power Taylor-Johnson brought to the role, it was met with negative reviews and little audience interest.

Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO, Tony Vinciquerra spoke to the Los Angeles Times about his tenure as CEO, and his thoughts on the failed Sony Spider-Man universe, or SSU. Vinciquerra will be stepping down after seven years of service, and Sony COO Ravi Ahuja will take on the role. When asked about his thoughts on the performance of Sony’s recent movies, including Kraven and Madame Web, which were released earlier this year, Vinciquerra was pretty much lost for words. He said he doesn’t understand why Kraven didn’t do well, because “the film is not a bad film.”

For Madame Web, he turned the blame to the press, saying, “Madame Web underperformed in the theaters because the press crucified it. It was not a bad film, and it did great on Netflix.” However, his thoughts on the movie are a huge contradiction to what audiences were saying about it. Madame Web, and Dakota Johnson’s portrayal of the titular character, were widely regarded as simply bad.

Kraven on the other hand, had the dishonor of setting the record for the worst opening weekend of any movie in the SSU, earning only $26 million on a budget of $110-150 million.

The SSU is on its last legs 3q16

Following Tobey Maguire’s iconic run as Spider-Man, and Andrew Garfield’s popular but critically panned time in the suit, Sony and Marvel Studios came to a deal for Spidey in the MCU. Tom Holland’s wild success in the role led Sony to try to ride on the MCU’s coattails and release a litany of movies centered around Spidey-related villains.

The SSU began with Venom and its sequel Let There Be Carnage and includes six movies in total. The Venom movies are often regarded as the only decent movies in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, while Morbius marked the beginning of their laughing stock era. Venom’s trilogy ended with Venom: The Last Dance, and while all three of his movies performed moderately well, the same can’t be said for the rest of the SSU.

As of now, Kraven the Hunter is the final film in the SSU, and while many are happy to see it go, there will always be a lingering “what if” around these characters and what could have happened if they’d had better adaptations.

Does this mean Venom is canon?]]>
<![CDATA[

Venom: The Last Dance is finally here, and while domestically it might not be living up to the hype, internationally fans can’t get enough of it. The threequel is performing exceptionally well abroad, and anime may have played a small role in at least one country.

There’s been no shortage of marketing for Venom 3, with every demographic being targeted in collaborations which have included that viral Hot Ones interview with the Symbiote, ad placement and air time during major UFC events, and plenty more. One of the most unexpected advertising collaborations comes from Japan where the new Venom movie has entered the world of Brave Bang Bravern.

The new CygamesPictures mecha series has become the latest vehicle for Sony to promote the latest Venom movie, with a pair of social media posts on both the show and the movie’s official s.

In the first post to the Brave Bang Bravern social media page, the show’s main characters can be seen at the theater watching Venom: The Last Dance, and let us just say they have a lot more shock on their faces than anyone I saw in my screening of the movie. Another thing to notice, the group have purchased all of the exclusive Venom popcorn and drink options, as well as shirts promoting the movie, so its safe to say they must be big fans.

Following up on this screening, the official Venom Japan shared a video of Isami being interrogated about the movie in a three-and-a-half-minute promo that can also be found on the anime’s YouTube channel. Sadly there are no English subtitles, so unless you speak Japanese, you’re going to have a tough time following this one.

Brave Bang Bravern isn’t the only anime that is being utilized to promote Venom; GeGeGe no Kitaro is also getting into the Marvel spirit, as pointed out by Comicbook.com. Having the chance to collaborate with Marvel is something that Toko Yatabe, the designer behind the show, was happy to accept.

All of these unique collaborations are coming together to push Venom to international success. Despite having a lackluster domestic opening, the movie did exceptionally well overseas, opening in several markets including Japan. If fans in the U.S. aren’t going to switch up and see the movie, it’s going to be integral that Sony continue to promote the film internationally for it to become a success.

Now that the movie has been out several days, fans have had their chance to see what all of the discourse is about. Despite the critics slamming the film, according to its Rotten Tomatoes score there’s a lot of fans who have loved it, so if you’ve been on the fence, it might be worth taking the leap and checking it out yourself.

Venom: The Last Dance is available to see in all of your usual cinemas across the globe right now. Similarly, if you want to check out Brave Bang Bravern the show’s first season is available to stream on Crunchyroll.

Sony seems to have made it a divine calling to make the worst movies imaginable, because no matter how hard we pan its so-called Spider-Man Universe, the company remains incorrigible, and now rumor has it that the producers are planning to have their own team-up event featuring Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and possibly, the titular web-head.

Well, what do you know, folks, it seems that not even a string of critical misses and box office disasters can stop Sony from trying its hand at the superhero game. I never thought I’d say this, but compared to films like Madame Web, Morbius, and the latest installment in the Venom series, the SnyderVerse was actually a cinematic masterpiece. Perhaps we treated Wonder Woman 1984 too harshly. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea to let Joss Whedon behind the wheel of Justice League. Perhaps even the MCU’s Multiverse Saga isn’t as bad as it seemed at first glance. Please, give us anything, anything but new movies set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

May the gods of cinema forgive us all if this latest rumor has any merit, because it looks like Sony will now try its hand at a crossover movie tentatively titled Sinister Six, and featuring Kraven, Morbius, Vulture, Madame Web, and Venom. Whether or not Spider-Man himself will show up is unclear, but the main villain will be the god of the abyss himself, Knull, whom we last saw in Venom: The Last Dance.

https://twitter.com/Marvel_Updates_/status/1850911937476853819

For those of you who don’t know, the Sinister Six usually refers to the cream of the crop of Spider-Man’s villains, so why Madame Web is on this list is something I question too. Not that the rest of them have any business being on there, either, but I’m trying not to get overly nitpicky on a rumor.

Besides, from what we’ve seen so far, the writers for these films care as much about faithfulness to the comics as they do about learning scriptwriting itself.

https://twitter.com/Uncle_Dangle/status/1850915002942714080

You have to wonder at this point if Sony has gone completely insane. What even are they thinking? These films aren’t even making money, with the exception of Venom, and even that is not a guaranteed hit. The Last Dance has to gross at least $450 million to begin to turn a profit, and I seriously doubt that it’s going to get there without some significant word-of-mouth hype.

And even if we forget for a minute that continuing to make these films makes no sense from a financial perspective, how could we quite ignore the absolute stain of mockery they’re leaving on the medium itself? We can poke fun at the MCU all day long and wonder if this entire enterprise hasn’t been milked to a point that it has become self-defeating, but at least the directors and writers who work with Marvel Studios put in a minuscule effort to make these films presentable, their plots bearable, their characters human-like. Not so much hope with Sony’s gang, who seem to be making these films just for the sake of making them, not even bothering to care what the audience has to say about it all.

Reviewing Venom: The Last Dance, our own Charlotte Simmons gave the movie a 1.5 out of 5 stars, writing, “This whole enterprise needs to be a given a long, aggressive acid bath for its crimes against the world of cinema,” but it seems that Sony, for whatever reason, remains oblivious to the hint.

Fans around the globe still love Venom, and who can really blame them?]]>
<![CDATA[

Venom is one of the most popular Marvel comics characters there is today, but sadly this fandom hasn’t always translated to big ticket sales when showing up on the big screen. In fact, with each new entry into the Venom franchise, this alien creature seems to be growing smaller.

The first installment of Venom was released back in 2018 and earned more than $80 million in domestic sales during its opening weekend. This was followed by the sequel in 2021, the Woody Harrelson-starring Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which was able to improve on this opening take despite being released during the pandemic.

That sequel installment managed to break pandemic opening weekend records with a whopping $90 million haul. Sadly, however, that trend of growth has not been followed up by most recent entry Venom: The Last Dance.

The Last Dance opened to just $51 million domestically over the weekend according to Variety, setting a record for the trilogy for all of the wrong reasons. Fortunately for Sony, there is still hope for the movie — the studio’s latest foray into the Spider-Man universe — because while fans in the US have chosen to avoid seeing it in theaters, international audiences seem to still be willing to pay their hard-earned cash to see this Symbiote do the dance.

The threequel opened to $124 million in the international market, taking its total earnings to some $175 million in its opening weekend. That might seem like a lot of money, but it’s still a ways off in of living up to the previous films. During its complete theatrical run, Venom (2018) reached $856 million in its total take which was an incredible achievement for the franchise. While Let There Be Carnage didn’t climb so high, the sequel still made a commendable $500 million around the globe which is impressive given the circumstances at the time.

While critics haven’t been shy with their thoughts on the film, which is currently sitting at an abysmal 37 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, this isn’t likely to be the reason for the poor ticket sales. In fact, each Venom installment has met the same fate of poor critic reviews, but as is the case for The Last Dance, fan reviews have been overwhelmingly positive

It’s also important to note that while its debut was somewhat lackluster, The Last Dance was still the number one movie at the domestic box office this week, and its international opening was the third biggest of the year behind Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. Those films are good company to keep and should provide some optimism that The Last Dance might still be considered a win for Sony.

The Last Dance concludes the Venom trilogy and could mean that Tom Hardy’s time as the Symbiote is finally over. Of course, this is a Marvel film and given how the MCU has folded Sony properties into its narrative over the years, there’s always a chance that Eddie Brock will be back for a future Spider-Man story.

If you’re eager to add to the box office tally and see just how Eddie and Venom conclude their enemies-to-brothers arc, then you can head out and see Venom: The Last Dance in theaters around the globe right now.

Sony execs should probably hang up their web-slingers, as the abysmal Rotten Tomatoes scores of their entries into the Spider-Man universe (which has no Spider-Man in it) have proven so ruthlessly

A new post by the X Culture Crave has compiled the scores received by five of Sony’s dalliances with the Spider-verse, all of which failed to reach the review aggregator’s favorable 60% score and were branded with the much-feared “Rotten” status.

It comes fresh off the release of Venom: The Last Dance, which marks Sony’s most recent foray into the Spider-Man universe. From least to most well-received (spoiler alert, even the highest-scoring movie didn’t do that well), the list begins with the Dakota Johnson-starring vehicle Madame Web, which was released earlier this year and received an 11% score among critics.

This won’t come as a surprise for fans, since it was the poor quality of the film — which follows Johnson as a peripheral friend of Peter Parker’s parents — became the subject of countless memes and an equally chaotic (yet undeniably entertaining) press tour.

The film was so bad, in fact, that some fans believed Madame Web did a U-turn and became something of an iconic, campy delight — in a ‘so bad it’s actually good’ kind of way — but Rotten Tomatoes didn’t agree.

The consensus among critics for Madame Web was rather scathing, describing the movie as “a forgettable superhero adventure” with a “predictable plot and uneven execution.” For those who aren’t fluent, that’s critic-speak for “pure trash.” Placed just a few percentage points above Madame Web on the Rotten Tomatoes scale is a movie whose mere title will send a shiver down your spine, Morbius

https://twitter.com/emilybernay/status/1511131092065132547

Earning just 15% on the critics Tomatometer — which brands Morbius “uninspired” and “nonsensical” — the origin story of one of Spider-Man’s comic book villains was loathed even by some of its stars, so perhaps this score was to be expected. Especially considering it was the screenwriter sibling of Madame Web, as both films were penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (who should be stopped at all costs).

The remaining Sony Spider-Man films in Rotten Tomatoes’ bad books are all part of the same franchise, with Venom, Venom: The Last Dance, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage receiving 30%, 39%, and 57%, respectively. It’s here that the gap between audience and critic scores is most apparent since the first two installments of the Tom Hardy-starring franchise both received 80% or more among fans, who almost universally enjoy the odd couple, symbiote-loving movies.

Critics said Venom was “chaotic [and] noisy,” and that its successor was only for “fans of the original’s odd couple chemistry.” Since it has only just arrived, we’re yet to hear the consensus for The Last Dance (and even its 39% score is subject to change), but perhaps the final Venom movie will be the beacon of hope Sony needs to redefine its vision for future Spider-Man entries.

If not, maybe they should scrap the whole endeavor entirely and just let Tom Holland do his thing, and spare themselves the destiny of ending up like 0% Rotten Tomatoes-getters like SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 and Gotti.

The demented cross-dimensional crossover we didn't know we needed. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Marvel’s What If…? animated series has practically infinite scope, as each new episode creates a fresh universe in which any MCU character could pop up in any number of combinations or different forms. The one dimensional barrier it can’t cross, though? The corporate one, meaning that Sony’s roster of superheroes and anti-heroes is sadly off-limits. That’s not so in the latest chapter in Marvel’s What If…? book series, however, which boldly embraces a crossover we’re unlikely to see happen in either Moon Knight season 2 or Venom: The Last Dance.

Returning readers of this series, launched earlier this year, will already be familiar with the answers to “What If… Loki was worthy">exploring Wanda’s loneliness, identity issues, and more. The result is a must-read for Moony fans, but not something that is one of the character’s most definitive tales.

It’s been over two years since Moon Knight hit screens and, fine, we get it, Oscar Isaac is a very busy boy, but it still hurts that there’s been no word on a second season just yet. With such clear ties to the MCU and yet a central premise that Marvel would never dare realize on screen, What If… Marc Spector Was Host to Venom? is the ultimate alternative. Let’s just hope it’s not our last dance with Moon Knight for a while.

Venom: The Last Dance marks the end of Sony’s best-performing Spider-Man adjacent films. Though not necessarily a high bar to clear, Tom Hardy has more aspirations after the conclusion of the trilogy.

Since Hardy’s debut as disgraced reporter Eddie Brock in 2018’s Venom, the actor has faced off against many villains in the anti-heroic story. Cletus Kasady AKA Carnage was portrayed by Woody Harrelson in his titular film, and fans will finally get to see the first big screen appearance of Marvel villain, Knull. Venom’s biggest adversary still has not been confirmed, however, and Hardy is ready to get these wheels turning. Recently at New York Comic-Con, the Mad Max: Fury Road actor doubled down on his desire to put Spider-Man through his paces.

This comment has not happened in a vacuum. Hardy has often voiced his desire to see Venom and Spider-Man come face to face. But with the complex dynamic between Marvel Studios and Sony, this seems like a pipe dream. Sony has tackled some of the biggest characters in Spider-Man lore, save for the web-slinging hero himself. Even Madame Web, which featured three separate Spider-Women only referred to Peter in tongue-in-cheek shenanigans.

Considering Sony’s track record with Marvel properties, it would be shocking if any interaction of Peter Parker slung into Venom for a cameo. But there is no shame in hoping.

The best Venom and Spider-Man confrontation has not been in a film j191r

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is of course beloved by MCU fans, but one of the best depictions of the character is in the recent Sony video games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 incorporates many villains that have failed to impress on the big screen as well as teaming up Peter and Miles Morales in a high-stakes story.

In this version of Spider-Man, Harry Osborn gets infected with Venom as a way to stave off a debilitating illness. As Venom is wont to do, it attaches itself to Peter who becomes a monstrous version of himself. Voiced by Candyman icon, Tony Todd, this Venom is a terrifying and powerful force, that Miles has to battle. The game also implements Kraven, a villain played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the alleged imminent film.

Sony’s Kraven film strays as far away from the source material as Madame Web, in a bid to make the characters younger and more attractive. Kraven is a significant character in Spider-Man lore, an unrepentant poacher with no moral com. Like with many of its films, Sony appears to be making Kraven more sympathetic with Johnson’s casting and backstory. In the film, which has undergone constant delays, Kraven rebels against his father’s (Russell Crowe) poaching and for some reason gets Beast Master-like abilities from a lion. This is the similar philosophy that made Cassandra Webb (Dakota Jonson) a young woman instead of her wizened portrayal in the comics.

The Spider-Man games are arguably one of the best adaptations of the comics. While they change some classic aspects, they stays true to the spirit of the source material. Perhaps Hardy’s Venom has the chance to make a mark similar to that of the games, but is unlikely to happen under the Sony umbrella. Under the current multiverse, however, anything is possible.

Sony’s most successful Marvel franchise is signaling the end of an era. While there is not much fanfare, there is, however, a lot to look forward to.

The production company may be behind infamous films such as Morbius and Madame Web, but Venom has been a fairly stable series. Starring heavy-hitter Tom Hardy as the tenacious reporter Eddie Brock, the first film did as well as it could while steering away from the MCU’s version of Spider-Man. The series sets Eddie in San Francisco where he encounters the love of his life, the titular sludge symbiote. Venom: Let There Be Carnage didn’t win over everyone, but it will still be bittersweet to say goodbye to the crime-fighting duo.

As Venom: The Last Dance implies, this is the conclusion to the trilogy and fans would love to know if another famous Tom will be gracing the Sony stage with his presence. MCU’s own Tom Holland was last seen in the heartbreaking and emotionally resonant Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film was the perfect way to end the trilogy — at least before Spider-Man 4 — and Holland has been taking his time away from the big screen ever since.

Could that mean he is saving his energy for a Venom cameo? If the production is aware of any such plans, they are not giving it away. Hardy made sure to keep his lips sealed when broached about the subject.

Perhaps this is a way to get fans to come into the theaters, but this may also be a pipe dream. The small Peter Parker representation that fans saw in this universe was a post-credit scene where Venom saw Peter Parker on a television screen. There are also implications that during the No Way Home debacle, Eddie was pulled into the MCU like many other Spider-Man villains. The canon at this point is murky at best, but there are other appearances in the film that fans are also hyped to see.

Venom fans should get ready for Knull 356u1r

The final Venom film is promising to not hold back. After years of dancing around one of Marvel’s most infamous villains, he will finally make his big-screen debut. As teased in the trailer, the third film will revolve around the villainous Knull, the creator of Venom’s race of symbiotes. Closer to a dark deity than a man, Knull created the symbiotes as a super army to conquer worlds. Wanting their freedom, the symbiotes ultimately imprisoned Knull and struck out on their own.

Knull is finally back and is the one entity Venom is truly afraid of. This villain is the right way to wrap up a trilogy. However, he has the chance to impact MCU properties as well. Knull is the architect behind the All-Black, the Necrosword that Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) wields in Thor: Love & Thunder. Taika Waititi’s film was worse received than Let There Be Carnage, the main failure being the depiction of Gorr. Waititi leaned too hard into camp territory instead of portraying the character fans actually expected: A scary killer of gods. The addition of another famous figure such as Knull would have made the story even more authentic. Alas, fans are left with Waititi’s version that is better left forgotten. The good news is that Venom: The Last Dance will finally put the character to use in the final chapter of the highly entertaining anti-hero story, which premieres in theaters on Oct. 24.

The Marvel fandom is essentially doing its best J. Jonah Jameson impression every day at this point, slamming their fists on the desk, chomping down on their cigars, and yelling “I WANT SPIDER-MAN!” It’s coming up on three full years since Spider-Man: No Way Home arguably took the crown as the greatest film to come out of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, and we’ve still yet to receive word that Spider-Man 4 is officially happening.

Once you staple all the dubious rumors, half-truths, and hearsay together, though, it seems like Marvel and Sony are close to getting somewhere with it. Shang-Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton is stepping in to direct, which is highly encouraging, and the fact that Homecoming trilogy writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are back to provide the script suggests it will retain the winning formula of what’s come before. Where things could really change, though, is with its title.

Spider-Man 4 gets a rumored title, and it teases Venom hasn’t had his last dance, after all 2e215

Please, nobody invest your life savings in betting that this is what it will be called, but one intriguing rumor going around claims that Spider-Man 4‘s title will be a big surprise that hints at a crossover with a certain dysfunctional symbiote from the Sony universe. The scuttlebutt (via X Cryptic HD Quality) goes that the fourquel will be called Spider-Man: King In Black.

For those unaware of the significance, King in Black is a major Marvel Comics event that introduced Knull, the god of the symbiotes who is already set to be the shadowy villain of Venom: The Last Dance. Going by the trailers, Knull will be more of a mysterious presence in the trilogy-closer, which could theoretically leave the door open for him to have a major direct and prominent role in Spider-Man 4. The promise of this title is that Tom Holland and Tom Hardy will finally get to team up to take on Knull together.

Given that this is what Spidey lovers have been waiting for since Venom came out in 2018, naturally some are ready to bow down before this king of titles.

Some are just glad the studios are letting their obsession with Home titles go at last.

Here’s the thing, though. In the comics, it takes Venom, Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the X-Men to defeat Knull. So this potential Spidey 4 could feature lots of juicy cameos.

On the other hand, maybe that’s the whole problem with this possible storyline in a nutshell. Others are criticizing that adapting King in Black in a Spidey movie makes no sense, as it wouldn’t be focused enough on Peter Parker’s character and mythos.

Do we really need to try and outdo No Way Home? Can’t we just have a more street-level Spidey 4 where, say, the wallcrawler teams up with Daredevil to fight Kingpin?

Again, as even the original source of this intel warns that it should be taken with “a grain of salt,” this is not something we should invest too much into. Hypothetically speaking, then, would this be a good direction for Spider-Man 4? Eh. Marvel and Sony’s pathetic previous attempt to cross Venom into the Sacred Timeline — spanning two post-credits scenes and that’s it — was a total bust, so that doesn’t instill much confidence in a full team-up. Maybe if Venom 3, releasing Oct. 25, breaks the box office this option might seem more appealing, but for now King in Black doesn’t sound like a home run.

There's a clue in the name "Venom: The Last Dance," to be fair...]]>
<![CDATA[

Tom Hardy is now a veteran of the comic book movie genre. Having first appeared as Bane in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, he has since appeared as Eddie Brock, aka Venom, in Venom (2012) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) and in a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

Pertinently, Hardy is set to reprise the latter role in Venom: The Last Dance, which will be released in theaters on Oct. 25 this year. The clue to whether or not he will play the eponymous character again appears to be in the name — the word “Last” giving some finality to his stint in the role — but you can never be sure in the movie world.

Hardy is undoubtedly busy in the foreseeable future, with four additional projects in the pipeline after the third Venom installment. The action thriller Havoc is coming to Netflix soon, and Hardy is set to appear in the crime thriller Blood on Snow, the highly anticipated Mad Max sequel Mad Max: The Wasteland, and the action-adventure War Party (as per IMDb).

However, with the MCU’s Multiverse Saga in full swing, characters from every live-action production based on Marvel’s comic books could be set to appear. With that in mind, you have to imagine Marvel Studios will be interested in having Hardy reprise his role as Venom in the franchise going forward. But what has he had to say about that?

So, will Tom Hardy return for a fourth Venom movie? a3d5d

It looks as though Venom: The Last Dance will indeed be Tom Hardy’s final performance as the eponymous character — at least if his recent comments on social media are anything to go by.

In a comment on a post on the official Venom Instagram , Hardy said, “That’s all she wrote for me and the big guy. We promise to make this the best of them all. We’ve loved making these. Thank you for your love and – come us for the Last Dance. For those of you that enjoy a good time from all of us in the team – Let us entertain you.”

That doesn’t only suggest there will be no more Venom movies but also that Hardy will not play the character again in any other films. Money talks, but you have to imagine Marvel Studios will have much persuading to do if they want Hardy to appear as the character in the likes of Avengers: Secret Wars.

But Hardy’s comments did not convince everyone. When Discussing Film posted what Hardy said on their X , the replies underneath said as much.

Only time will tell whether Hardy is telling the truth or if he can be convinced to mingle with decades of Marvel royalty in the MCU’s ensemble projects. We certainly hope he can be. Venom facing off with the likes of Wolverine, Deadpool, Blade, Ghost Rider, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, the Fantastic Four, or the Guardians of the Galaxy in live-action would be a sight to behold.

All good things must come to an end, even the best Marvel love story ever told. Venom: The Last Dance will regretably be the last entry into the Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom saga.

Arguably the only decent Sony franchise film, Venom was first released in 2018 before the Morbius and Madame Web debacle. The film portrays a struggling reporter, Eddie, with canonically no connection to Spider-Man, who becomes a host from an alien goo from space. Venom is ravenous and morally grey, but through his relationship with Eddie, the two become better people for it. Or, one better person, and one better parasitic alien. Their dynamic is genuinely touching, which makes the third film in the trilogy bittersweet. The only solace fans will have is a themed popcorn bucket of their very own when the film hits theaters.

Is the Venom popcorn bucket available yet? 6sm2v

In recent years, popcorn buckets have become more and more popular. Though always a part of the movie-going experience, viral popcorn buckets like the Dune creation created a cultural moment. The receptacle was made in the form of the enormous sandworm, Shai-hulud, and it didn’t take long for those with their mind in the gutter to think of other uses for the bucket. The release of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s addition doubled down on the suggestive nature, as only a piece of Deadpool merchandise can do. No one can say if the Venom bucket will discourage creative thinking, but at the very least, movie-goers can fit their hands to retrieve kernels of popcorn relatively easily. The teeth alone will hopefully be a deterrent for those NSFW minds.

If fans are looking to get a jump on their Venom shopping, they may have to swallow some disappointment. Though the announcement for the popcorn bucket was released, there was no confirmation when the merchandise would drop, or for how much money. Popcorn buckets are high commodities so the theaters may be keeping this one close to the vest. As the new movie will release in October, it’s safe to say that fans won’t have to wait too long for the bucket — or news on the newest villain in the Sony universe.

From the promotional material released so far, fans have put together that the final boss in the Venom franchise will be none other than world-killer, Knull. Marvel fans will probably know him best as the creator of the All-Black, or the Necrosword featured in Thor: Love and Thunder. Though not pictured in the divisive Taika Waititi film, his fingerprints are all over the Marvel universe. Knull is responsible for creating the symbiotes as a way to destroy entire planets. His crimes were many, condemning him to a prison. By the looks of The Last Dance, he is out and now every symbiote far and wide is fleeing in any direction they can reach. There is no official word on who will be portraying the iconic villain, but anticipation is high for the third film in the saga. Fans will have to wait for that and the popcorn bucket when the film hits theaters in October.
