Of all the superhero movies to look forward to, the animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the most anticipated. With good reason, too. The previous film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a huge hit and made almost $400 million at the box office. This one, according to the trailer at least, is looking more multiverse-y than its previous iteration, with even more versions of Spider-Man to get to know and love. There’s a rumored “240 unique characters” in the film, per The Direct, including rumors of real-life Tom Holland making an appearance.

The spoiler comes courtesy of a Vietnamese Facebook claiming that Mrs. Chen, a character from Tom Hardy’s Venom, will appear in the movie. Take a look at the post below:

The photo shows antagonist the Spot, played by Jason Schwartzman, in the same store featuring Mrs. Chen from Venom. The photo’s caption says “Tom Hardy’s Universe appears in Spider-Verse 2.” Does this mean that Tom Hardy might make an appearance in the new movie as Venom? We can only hope.

The hype machine for the movie is only heating up as Epic Games also recently announced that Miles Morales will be ing Fortnite on May 22, along with Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was originally scheduled for an April 2022 release date, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie will now be released on June 2 of this year.

New Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse merchandise has revealed yet another new character poised to be Sony’s next Spider-Verse star: Spider-Punk.

Thanks to merchandise for the Into the Spider-Verse sequel, fans can now be certain that Spider-Punk is coming to the big screen. To this point, there had been countless rumors and insinuations that the British Spider-Rocker would bring his denim vest, bad attitude, and foul mouth into the Spider-Verse. Now, it’s official.

Who is he? Also nicknamed the “Anarchic Spider-Man,” Spider-Punk first appeared in 2014. Hobie Brown was, as you may have guessed, bitten by a radioactive spider that had been contaminated by toxic waste. Armed with his newfound powers, he rallied the masses with his awesome guitar skills and the power of punk rock. They waged war on his world’s Norman Osborn, who had become President of the United States. The “radioactive suicide machine” and his vulgar messages inspired many to his cause, and they defeated Norman and his minions.

No doubt, fans will run with the Spider-Punk theories in short order. In the comics, Hobie comes from Earth-838. That happens to be the same Earth-838 where Scarlet Witch laid waste to the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Whether or not Hobie’s Earth will be connected to the one from MOM remains to be seen, but it will be an interesting detail all the same.

Spider-Punk isn’t the only new face we’ll see in Across the Spider-Verse. Last week, Twitter s spotted Peter Parker’s clone, Ben Reilly, aka the Scarlet Spider, on more merchandise being marketed for the film.

Scarlet Spider has long been one of the most popular Spider-Men in the comics. At one point, he took up the reins as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man during the 1990s. His distinct red jumpsuit and baby-blue hoodie made their way into Spider-Man: Homecoming as an allusion to Ben Reilly. Finally, fans will get to see him on the silver screen.

Spider-Man fans are already celebrating the sequel to the beloved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, as the newest installment, blows up the internet. But some sharp-eyed animation fans are also buzzing about a certain easter egg in the already dizzying array of crossovers seen in the first look.

The first film utilized a vast array of different Spideys from around the multiverse, including Gwen, as well as an adult (and pretty down on his luck) Peter Parker, Spider-Man; Noir, and, of course, The Amazing Spider-Ham. Many of the characters all already slated to appear in the sequel. But the new trailer introduces an Easter Egg which alludes to an entirely different type of hero.

As the trailer opens, with Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Gwen visiting a grounded Miles Morales at his parents’ apartment, viewers are treated to several views of Miles’ childhood bedroom, much of which is filled with his old toys. In a blink and you miss it moment, one of them is revealed to be a wooden moose. While the reference may be lost on some, the toy will be instantly recognizable to fans of another project from Spider-verse directors Phil Lord and Christopher Millers’ project, Netflix’s The Mitchells vs. The Machines.

The moose toy, which belongs to Mitchells’ protagonist, Katie Mitchell is a definite shout-out to Lord and Millers’ former work. The Mitchells vs. The Machines, was, like the Spider-verse titles, a Sony Pictures project but was not given a 2020 theatrical release as planned due to the Covid Pandemic. The movie rights were then purchased by Netflix and became a surprise hit for the streaming service when it was finally released in April of this year.

Although The Mitchells vs. The Machines has generated a fairly intense fandom it’s probably not popular to the point where we will be seeing a Katie and Miles team-up anytime soon. But given Lord and Millers’ ability to think outside the box there is always a possibility, however slim, at least another Easter Egg being hatched.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will be released in theaters in October 2022.

Co-director Kemp Powers teased that our first look at the hotly-anticipated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel was coming imminently, and he certainly wasn’t lying.

Sony have dropped the first look at the animated blockbuster, which has confirmed the title as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The footage opens with Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales daydreaming as he tends to do, before Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy returns from her reality to drag New York City’s teenage web-slinger on another multiversal adventure.

From there, we’re treated to more eye-popping visuals as Miles traverses through the dimensions, before the teaser culminates in a grandstanding appearance from Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara, better known as Spider-Man 2099. All told, it looks incredible, with even more distinct and vivid animation styles being thrown into the mix.

The only downside is that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse isn’t coming to theaters until October 2022, but that means we’ll be treated to plenty more footage between now and then. Expectations are through the roof after the opener won rave reviews and landed an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, but based on the two and a half minutes from the movie that have now been released online, the creative team are more than up to the task.

So much hype has been gathering around the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, that it’s very easy to forget there’s a second multiversal blockbuster starring the friendly neighborhood superhero in production and on its way to theaters next year.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is widely regarded and highly lauded as one of the best animated movies and superhero stories of the modern era, winning rave reviews and scooping the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature on top of a solid $375 million box office haul.

Sony producer Amy Pascal teased that the first look at the sequel would be arriving in the near future, and now co-director Kemp Powers has hinted that it might be coming as soon as later on today, as you can see below.

The next chapter in the Into the Spider-Verse saga is locked in for an October 2022 debut, and based on the quality of the first installment and the myriad of cameos contained within, hopes are high that the creative team will be able to deliver on expectations that have been significantly raised. Looking at the talent involved, we’re confident that it’ll live up to the increased pressure, especially when No Way Home is set to raise the bar for alternate reality Spidey stories even higher.

Though Marvel fans are currently gearing up for the arrival of Spider-Man: No Way Home — which is essentially a live-action Spider-Verse movie — next month, don’t forget that a sequel to the 2018 hit animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is on its way, as well. Right now, the studio isn’t promoting it to keep the focus on the incoming threequel, but producer Amy Pascal has now offered an update on where things are at with the project.

In an interview with Fandango, Pascal promised that Into the Spider-Verse 2 is “going to be fantastic” and that Sony will “have something to show on that very soon.” Something fans want to know about the follow-up is if we can expect any crossover with the live-action movies. e.g. could Tom Holland and Hardy show up in animated form? Pascal was asked this, and she stressed that each of these continuities remains separate, although she notably didn’t rule out the possibility.

“Well, there’s the Marvel Universe, which is one container and then there’s the Spider-Verse movies, which are different and then there’s the other universe where the Sony characters are in,” Pascal stated. “We all are very respectful of each other and work together and make sure that we’re only being additive.”

It’s worth ing that a couple of major live-action crossovers almost occurred in the first movie. At one stage, Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker was almost Tobey Maguire’s version, but this concept was nixed as it was believed audiences might get confused. Meanwhile, Holland himself has confirmed that he was supposed to have a cameo as his Spidey, but it ultimately got deleted.

Given that these crossovers came so close to happening the first time around, then, it feels highly plausible that something like them could become a reality in the sequel. Especially as audiences are so much more familiar with the concept of the multiverse at this point, certainly after No Way Home. Having said that, Pascal’s comments indicate Sony is slightly wary of muddying the waters too much, so it’s not guaranteed to happen.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is scheduled to release on Oct. 7, 2022.

One of the coolest easter eggs in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse showed up in the end credits.

Spider-Man 2099, played by Oscar Isaac, appears in a scene and receives a time-traveling wrist apparatus and someone asks him where he wants to go. “Back to the beginning,” he says.

He then ends up in a scene from the original Spider-Man cartoon that eagle-eyed viewers will recognize from a popular meme of Spider-Man pointing at himself.

While the cameo is barely a minute long, reports are coming in that Isaac wants to continue playing the character in the future.

“I would love to inhabit that character for more as well, so let’s hope so!” he said.

Isaac also talked about playing different Marvel characters over the years, including Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse and the Moon Knight.

“You know, I’d like to say that there’s way more intention behind what happens, but it’s reacting to what comes my way. So this opportunity comes my way, and I think, ‘Yeah, I’d love to do that.’ It’s not stuff that I’ve necessarily seeked out. And so I’ve just been very lucky that that stuff kind of lines up in a way that that really speaks to my interests, and I get a chance to contribute.”

There’s a real possibility that Isaac could appear in the next animated Spider-Man movie, considering the movie was called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse at one point.

In the comics, Spider-Man 2099 is a geneticist named Miguel O’Hara who wanted to create Spider-Man abilities in other people. He gets into an accident that changes half of his DNA into spider DNA.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 is scheduled to swing into theaters on Oct. 7 of next year. Most of the cast will return, although there’s no official word yet on Spider-Man 2099.

The currently untitled and highly anticipated sequel to the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won’t be out for another year, but new images from the film are circulating on social media and show a Spider-Man in the classic suit looking over the New York City skyline.

The official Twitter for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse posted the new photos on Thursday, with two shots from different angles of Spider-Man as he takes in a view of New York. Unfortunately, because of the multiversal nature of these films, it’s difficult to determine exactly which version of Spider-Man we’re looking at, so the images are just enough to whet fans’ appetites without giving away too much about the film.

The images are both in the comic book style of the first film with chromatic aberrations and all. Both images can be seen in the tweet below, which also includes the caption: “Look out and see a multiverse of possibilities ahead of you.”

The first Into the Spider-Verse film released in 2018 to both audience and critical acclaim. The film follows Miles Morales as he comes to with his new spider powers and works together with a variety of Spider-Men from different universes to stop Wilson Fisk or Kingpin from destroying the multiverse. The film grossed more than $355 million dollars around the globe.

Even with these latest images, little is still known about the Spider-Verse sequel’s plot or even its title, but the film is set to release on Oct. 7 next year.

Most fans are in agreement that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t just one of the best superhero movies of the post-X-Men boom, it’s one of the greatest ever. Whether we’re talking live-action or animation, few comic book adaptations have offered up the same winning blend of action, heart, humor and excitement.

After earning $375 million at the box office, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and winding up with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 97% from almost 400 reviews, it would be fair to say that the sequel is coming with increased levels of expectation.

Almost as soon as it was announced, the follow up was delayed to October 2022, which feels like an eternity for those clamoring to see more of Miles Morales. Many new additions have been rumored for the second installment, but a new listing may have given the official title away.

The Cosmic Circus uncovered a LinkedIn listing from a CFX supervisor who worked on the first film, and it looks as though Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse could be the film’s moniker. While that’s hardly the most inventive or imaginative branding, it does tease that we’ll be getting even more scope and scale compared to the opener, which is a mouthwatering prospect in itself.

Every major comic book adaptation is always being designed with sequels in mind, but Dave Callaham was well ahead of the game when it came to getting the ball rolling on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. The sequel to the Academy Award-winning original is widely regarded as one of the best superhero movies ever made, regardless of whether we’re talking about animation or live-action.

Callaham wasn’t even part of the first installment, with the screenplay credit awarded to Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman, but the 43-year-old has become one of the industry’s go-to guys for writing blockbusters. His credits over the last decade have included The Expendables, Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, Wonder Woman 1984, Mortal Kombat, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the Russo brothers’ Hercules remake, so he knows his stuff.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Callaham revealed that he’d already started the script for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, which he’s co-writing with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, before the opener even hit theaters in December 2018.

“Chris and Phil said, ‘We have this animated Spider-Man movie we are doing’. They were still working on the first movie. They couldn’t tell me what it was going to look like. Because it’s them, I said, ‘I’ll come in and see what you have. I don’t get it’. They showed me an animatic, which at the time looked like napkin drawings with temp vocals and no animation styling behind it.

I could feel the heart behind it, but I couldn’t imagine how spectacular this thing could be yet. They showed me some still images of some of the art they had been working on. With them, I trust them implicitly and I believed they were going to do something special. I said, ‘Okay’, and they said, ‘Great. Pitch us a sequel’. So I began the very strange process of working on the sequel for a year before the original came out.”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is currently penciled in for an October 2022 debut, but so far any new casting announcements have been few and far between. That hasn’t stopped countless rumors making the rounds, though, but at least we know Callaham has had plenty of time to hammer things into shape, while Lord and Miller are two of the finest comedic filmmakers in the business, so the sequel is in very good hands.

Production is in full swing on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, and the sequel faces a tough task in living up the lofty expectations that surround it. Not only was the first installment a critical and commercial smash hit that snagged the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, but it’s also widely regarded as one of the greatest comic book adaptations ever made.

The bar will need to be raised significantly to ensure that the second chapter manages to outdo the opener in every conceivable way, from concept through to execution. And a combination of teases, rumor, and speculation may have hinted at any number of potential Spidey cameos.

Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 will no doubt have a bigger part to play, while a lot of folks would love Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir to return. On top of that, we’ve heard about the possibility of 1990s favorite Christopher Daniel Barnes being welcomed back into the fold and the debut of Spider-Man India Pavitr Prabhakar.

It was only a few weeks ago that Jake Johnson revealed he was negotiating a deal to return as washed-up web-slinger Peter B. Parker, but based on his latest comments in a podcast interview, it doesn’t sound as though his contract is signed, sealed, and delivered just yet.

“I’ll be pretty heartbroken if I don’t get to play Peter B. Parker again. He’s a character who I don’t think his story’s over. I would like to know what happens to him.”

So far, the only names confirmed for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 are Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy, and Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew. But looking at the sprawling ensemble that was gathered last time out, it should hopefully be safe to assume that Johnson’s return is a mere formality at this stage, with a raft of new additions expected to follow shortly afterwards.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: No Way Home is expected to revolve around the multiverse, but even if it lives up to Tom Holland’s billing as the single most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made, it’s still got a long way to go if it wants to match the levels of critical and audience acclaim that greeted Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Arguably the greatest animated comic book adaptation ever made, and without a doubt one of the finest superhero stories of the modern era, Into the Spider-Verse scored rave reviews across the board and landed the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The sequel is in production and heading to theaters in October of next year, but plot details are being kept under heavy guard for the time being.

However, Jake Johnson has confirmed that he will back as Peter B. Parker, the washed-up and disheveled version of the web-slinger. While his return may have been a foregone conclusion looking at how heavily he factored into the original, it’s still encouraging to hear it come straight from the man himself.

“I’ve been working on a contract. I believe Peter B. Parker is making a return. All I know is that I heard nothing for the longest time and I was very sad. I really loved playing Peter B. Parker. I would like to know what happens with Peter B. Parker. I think the way his journey ended in the first movie was very open-ended. So, when I got word that they were working on a deal or figuring it all out, I thought I truly can’t wait to see what the writers came up with.”

Christopher Daniel Barnes’ 1990s animated favorite has been rumored to the lineup of Spideys, as has Spider-Man India Pavitr Prabhakar, while Kathryn Hahn would love to return as Oliva Octavius. So far, though, the only names officially confirmed are Johnson’s Peter, Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy and Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew, but there will be plenty more to come.

As part of their overall deal with Sony, producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have been tasked to oversee and entire slate of film and television projects built out from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so things are just getting started.
