There are upsides to being a pop star — money, fame, millions of adoring fans, maybe even free meals at your favorite restaurant. But the plight has always been a severe case of being misunderstood. Some moan about that fact, and some — like Sabrina Carpenter — count on it.

Carpenter is fresh off the success of her two-time Grammy-winning album Short n’ Sweet and spicy tour, and she’s already announced the release date for her project Man’s Best Friend — put a pin in that title. Some fans have expressed surprise that an artist of her caliber is putting out another album so soon, especially after one of the biggest years of her career. But this is nothing new for the “Espresso” star — she’s been an album-a-year artist for almost a decade now. She’s clearly not planning to slow down anytime soon. The work ethic discussion quickly took a back seat once she revealed the album cover, though.

For some fans, however, the cover art of the new album was simply too outrageous for their taste. the title? Man’s Best Friend appears to have two alternate covers — one features a dog on a leash wearing a pendant with the album’s title. The other, presumably the explicit version, shows a man out of frame holding Carpenter by the hair as she kneels.

Maybe this landed too soon after the Sydney Sweeney bathwater soap saga, but the first wave of responses was filled with rage and disappointment. One declared, “This is not feminism, and this is not empowering,” while another expressed regret for having given Carpenter such a large platform, claiming they “made the wrong person famous.”

But that’s not to say the response was universal — some fans were down with the provocative cover. One even joked that Sabrina is in good company among the class of persecuted Carpenters. Others saw it as a metaphor. And some viewed the backlash itself as puritanical.

There’s a long history of album covers causing controversy. Pusha T’s Daytona infamously used a photo of Whitney Houston’s hotel bathroom at the height of her drug dependency. Even Beyoncé’s Renaissance cover was considered too revealing for some countries in the Middle East, which prompted a censored version featuring only the horse without Beyoncé atop it. So, these things do happen.

Sabrina Carpenter will be fine. This isn’t the first time she’s faced public criticism. And if her lead single is any indication, she may just be using this new project to address her past relationship with Barry Keoghan — with the themes and art direction potentially alluding to the specifics of their dynamic.

What this latest moment does raise, however, is the question of what we actually want in art. Do we still want work that challenges our notions and expectations? Or have we settled for being placated by versions of what we already know and love? It’s not up to us to tell you how to feel about the cover. Subjectivity in art is expected — encouraged, even.

Former Congressman Matt Gaetz recently shared his opinion on pop star Sabrina Carpenter’s more risqué stage performances, criticizing her dance moves by saying, “Poor technique.” His comment came after a string of shows on Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet tour that have caused a big public debate about art, sexuality, and what performers owe their audience.

The disagreement focuses on Carpenter’s performance of her song Juno, a slower, moody track about deep romantic feelings. Yahoo reports that During her tour, she has added more and more sexually suggestive dance moves to the song. These include movements that look like different sex positions, as well as the use of props and backup dancers in ways that many people see as very explicit.

One move in particular called the “Juno position for the lesbians,” involves kneeling and making motions that some viewers think mimic oral sex. Other parts of the performance include imitations of other sexual acts, sometimes with male dancers and often while wearing revealing outfits.

People have reacted in very different ways to these performances. Many fans love them, saying Carpenter is confidently expressing her sexuality and taking control of her image. But others, especially conservative commentators, have called the performances “vulgar,” “inappropriate,” and harmful to her younger fans. They argue that such openly sexual performances shouldn’t be shown in front of audiences that might include underage viewers.

To be honest, I think Matt Gaetz is just making a joke and saying that it’s not the way you do it. He’s pretty conservative, so the X post may be that it’s just poor as in not very classy. Either way, Carpenter has been incredibly sexual in her performances since she started, and if you’re letting kids watch, that’s a choice you’re making as a parent.

Concerns about public decency and its effect on kids have been a major topic in online debates and news coverage. This isn’t the first time Carpenter has explored more adult themes. She started her career on the Disney Channel, known for a wholesome image, but in recent years, she has intentionally shifted toward a more mature and openly sexual style. Her music, performances, and visuals now focus heavily on desire, obsession, and female empowerment, marking a clear break from her earlier family-friendly persona.

The argument over Carpenter’s performances brings up bigger questions about where art should draw the line, how sexuality fits into performance, and what responsibility artists have to their audiences. Either way, don’t watch her if you don’t like it.

John Chu, the director set to helm a biopic about Britney Spears, has responded to rumors around who will lead the cast of the much-anticipated film. 

In case you missed it, Chu first ed the Spears biopic back in August of last year, setting the internet alight with speculation as to who would portray the iconic pop star. Naturally, a movie of this pedigree spawned a fan-casting frenzy, with audiences floating names like Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande and Millie Bobby Brown for the leading role. The suggestion of the former two actresses was well-placed, since Grande recently starred in Wicked, directed by Chu, and Brown has frequently expressed interest in portraying Spears.

However, try as they might, fans didn’t quite have the behind-the-scenes influence they might’ve hoped for, at least according to Chu. The director took to social media to react to rumors of Grande, Carpenter and Brown being in contention for the role of Spears, and his response might feel like a dagger in the heart of the pop music fandom. “None of this is true,” Chu wrote in reply to a viral X post that quoted a report from Life & Style. Chu went on to say that while the trio’s attachment to the movie “sounds exciting,” suggestions of their involvement are impossible given where the biopic is at in its development. 

“[We] have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet,” the director wrote, before confirming that “we are way too early in development.” Chu’s statement puts to bed much of the speculation around the cast for the film, which saw other fans put forward names like Olivia Holt, Sydney Sweeney, and Elle Fanning. While information around the cast remains scarce, we do know a few details about the currently untitled biopic.

Universal Pictures will produce the film after securing the rights last year, and it will be based upon Spears’ own best-selling memoir, The Woman In Me, which arrived in 2023. That book recounts Spears’ career from her days on Mickey Mouse Club to her much-publicized conservatorship battle, but it’s not yet known which elements of the memoir will be used in the biopic. Marc Platt — whose credits include Wicked, Dear Evan Hanson and Cruella — is also on board as a producer. Beyond those details — plus Chu’s revelation in January that Spears herself will be “very involved” — very little is known about the Spears biopic. 

This isn’t the first time Grande and Carpenter have been at the top of fan-cast lists in recent months. Grande — who received an Oscar nomination for her role in Wicked — became the subject of much online chatter around an Audrey Hepburn biopic, after she was spotted channeling the iconic moviestar on multiple red carpets earlier this year. For her part, Carpenter has long been atop fans’ wishlists for the lead role in an inevitable live-action remake of Tangled, though neither actress has confirmed these speculations.

Naturally, we’ll just have to wait and see who will be given the honor of portraying Spears in the biopic, but in the meantime, we can always revisit her iconic discography, or catch her on old reruns of Mickey Mouse Club. While we’re there, we may even spot a young Ryan Gosling, which I’m certainly not complaining about.

It’s a scary time in general, but there’s finally some good news on the horizon, and it comes courtesy of Amanda Seyfried and Sabrina Carpenter. Because, who else? For all those wondering what connects those two undeniable icons, well, it might just be Mamma Mia 3. While not officially confirmed, various castmates of the beloved musical franchise have let slip that a threequel is very much in the works, with both Christine Baranski and Meryl Streep revealing details about the third film’s plot and the trajectory of its characters.

For her part, Baranski, who portrays Tanya, said last August that she’d met with producer Judy Craymer, who is “planning Mamma Mia 3” and who provided the “narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen.” 

Streep, meanwhile, said last May that a meeting about her potential return to the series was “imminent.” But what is Mamma Mia without Sophie? Well, Seyfried is thankfully on board for the prospective threequel, too, and even went as far as reviving a long-running rumor that Carpenter will portray her daughter. Appearing recently on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actress said she was “putting it out there” that Carpenter would appear in Mamma Mia 3, hopefully adding “it’s going to happen.” 

Seyfried also addressed how the rumor even began circling, since it was her fan-casting that first brought Carpenter’s name into the equation. “Somebody said [Carpenter] was a fan of the musical,” the Mean Girls star said. “They fed it to me, and I was like, ‘Yeah, that would be great.’” The actress seems to be referring to an interview with ABC News last year, in which she expressed interest in the pop star playing her daughter.

“If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen,” she said at the time. Whatever the case may be, Seyfried reiterated to Fallon that she’s a “big fan” of the “Espresso” singer.

While at this point it remains an unconfirmed case of wishful thinking, Carpenter’s involvement in Mamma Mia 3 would see her a lineage of truly unforgettable blondes. In the Mamma Mia-verse, Seyfriend’s Sophie is the daughter of Donna (played by Streep), and the granddaughter of Ruby, who was portrayed in the sequel by a blonde-wigged Cher. I don’t know about you, but Carpenter sure seems like a natural entry into that extremely chic and vocally talented bloodline, and fans seem to agree.

“I need this so bad,” one wrote on X, with another adding that they will “be so upset” if Carpenter does not appear in the threequel. “That would be iconic,” a third quipped. In any case, it might be some time before we know for sure whether the pop star will appear in Mamma Mia 3, since its existence hasn’t even been officially confirmed by Universal Pictures. 

It’s not the first time Carpenter’s name has circled around in-development movie projects. Last year, amid the never-ending chatter about a live-action remake of Tangled, legions of fans put forth Carpenter as their choice for the long-haired princess, alongside equally popular picks like Florence Pugh, Mandy Moore, and, coincidentally enough, Seyfried.

Baranski, Streep, and Seyfried are so far the only cast to have publicly discussed Mamma Mia 3, and while we can’t confirm anything with 100% certainty, Craymer did say last year that she “know[s] there’s a trilogy there.” Hopefully, that trilogy will include Miss Carpenter.  

Sabrina Carpenter and Sydney Sweeney are some of the hottest bombshells in Hollywood right now. They are immensely successful, gorgeous, and extremely fashionable. Instead of competing against each other as the patriarchy would want, the “Taste” singer proved there was enough space for all women as she wore the same dress Sweeney previously wore.

Carpenter was one of the stars who attended W Magazine’s annual Best Performances party on Jan. 4. She dressed for the occasion with a bright pink minidress that gave both Barbie vibes and Marilyn Monroe. The gown in question is the Vivienne Westwood Nova Cora Crepe Satin Minidress, which highlighted her best features as Carpenter put on a busty display and highlighted her legs thanks to the short skirt that wrapped around her waist and fell with a small train behind.

The “Espresso” star paired the look with Stuart Weitzman platform sandals, also pink, and accessorized with custom Azature fine jewelry. Carpenter had three separate necklaces made up of 43.5 carats of D diamonds, per the brand, and paired with diamond stud earrings. She kept her blonde hair in her signature glamorous waves with a side part and opted for blush makeup to highlight the pin-up style.

Fans immediately noticed she was the perfect Barbie. “HI BARBIE,” reads one of the comments, with a different one echoing, “She’s so Barbie.” They also noticed the “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend vibes,” and considering how many carats she was wearing, it was hard not to.

Naturally, the cheeky humor was a major hit with her followers. “well, guess you can try again in 2026!,” reads one of the most popular comments, while others simply laughed at the caption. “The fact u already lost the resolution just by this caption I-” wrote another.

Obviously, she looked spectacular. The snowsuit is apparently in high demand, with an estimated retail price of around $80. However, the website no longer has it and the retail price has gone up to several hundred dollars. The feather hood, tight fit, and adorable Hello Kitty logo were the perfect fit for Carpenter, and everyone loved how affordable it is, and hated the fact that they couldn’t purchase it. However, fans might get a chance to snatch it in stores.

“Wish they had it on the website still,” wrote a fan. Another revealed, “Lmao oh girl the snow suit was like originally 80.00 now it’s 600.00 for resale.”

One of the photos included a shirt with a tribute to The Beatles. The yellow shirt with “Strawberry Fields Forever” retails for $58 at Junk Food Clothing and she accessorized it with the same fur she had with the blue snowflake dress. At least one of them is available.

Kendrick Lamar just had one of his best years ever, so it’s a no brainer that his tour is one of the most popular concerts to catch next year. The 37-year old rapper was picked to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, swept the BET Hip Hop Awards by winning eight awards, including “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” and has started planning a massive tour, slated to kickoff in early 2025.

Lamar’s Grand National Tour begins in Minnesota on April 19. Solána Imani Rowe, known by fans as Sza, is touring alongside him. While it’s promising to be an amazing show, seats in some cities are getting pricey, so you might want to act fast if you want to attend this one. As of this writing, you can still grab upper level seats to the East Rutherford, New Jersey show for as little as $164.

2. Usher

Who doesn’t love Usher? The “You Got it Bad” singer is currently embarking on his Past Present and Future Tour, and it’s on the must-see concert list for 2025. Due to high demand, the R&B singer has extended the tour several times. “Ya’ll not playing games,” Usher wrote on X earlier this year, after he was forced to add another show to the tour’s London calendar due to high demand.

3. Billie Eilish

Apple Music’s Artist of the Year, Billie Eilish, is another must-see performer to catch in 2025. Eilish became the youngest person to ever win multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, in 2020. She was 18 at the time. The 22-year-old’s Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour kicked off in Quebec City in September. Her final performance will be on July 23, 2025 in the United Kingdom.

4. Post Malone

Post Malone is all over the map these days, and we’re here for it. After collabing with Taylor Swift on the song “Fortnite” for her Tortured Poets Department album, released in April, Posty announced that he was going on a “big” stadium tour with country singer Jelly Roll. And that’s not all he’s got lined up in 2025. He’s also slated to headline Coachella 2025 alongside Lady Gaga and Green Day.

5. Rascal Flatts

After taking a break from performing, Rascal Flatts is going back on the road! The band’s “Life is a Highway” tour is kicking off in 2025. It will stop in 21 U.S. cities, with the first performance kicking off in Evansville, Indiana on Feb. 13. The final show will be on April 5 in Jacksonville, Florida. While it’s no secret that concert prices have gotten out of control, the prices to attend this concert are reasonably cheap – for now at least . 6. Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is another artist to catch in 2025. The 29-year-old “Levitating” singer is headlining her Radical Optimism tour in 2025. The tour kicks off March 17 in Melbourne, Australia. The U.S. leg of the tour kicks off in Chicago on September 5, 2025. The tour is stopping in 9 U.S. cities, including Boston, Atlanta, New York, Miami, and Dallas.

7. Sabrina Carpenter

Hot off her latest breakup, Sabring Carpenter is headed overseas for the international leg of her Short n’ Sweet Tour in 2025. The U.S. leg of the “Espresso” singer’s tour wrapped up on Nov. 18. The tour is now headed overseas and will be stopping in various international destinations, including Dublin, London, Paris, Milan, and Amsterdam. If you’re going to be traveling internationally in 2025 and can catch one of her shows, the tickets are pretty affordable. Rock fans have been losing their mind over the fact that AC/DC is touring in 2025. The heavy metal rock band will kick off its Power Up Tour in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 10 – their first U.S. tour in nine years, and as of right now, ticket prices aren’t too bad. As Sabrina Carpenter enters a new level of stardom, it’s impossible not to know her name, and she’s making headlines everywhere you look! The attention is deserved, and the star has proven herself as an exceptionally talented musician. Disney is officially making a live-action version of Tangled and according to fans, producers only need to look at one of Spotify’s biggest stars in 2024 to find their leading lady. 

After years of murmurings, news broke today that a live-action remake of the 2010 animation is officially in the works at Disney, with The Greatest Showman filmmaker Michael Gracey in talks to direct. Meanwhile, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson — whose credits include Do Revenge and Thor: Love and Thunder — will reportedly pen the script, which will serve as a reimagination of the long-haired princess originally from the iconic Brothers Grimm fairytale.

Confirmation that a live-action Tangled is on the horizon might’ve been exciting enough, but with no details revealed about casting, the question still remains as to who will don the lengthy hair extension and succeed Mandy Moore as the new Rapunzel. Doing what they do best, fans promptly began casting their ideal candidates for the role, with one name in particular proving especially popular given her mammoth success this year. 2024 has undoubtedly been the year of Sabrina Carpenter, so perhaps it’s not surprising that she’s atop the list of multiple live-action Tangled fan-casts.

At this point, it’s all purely fan speculation, which might not have any influence on Disney’s decision but remains a fun exercise nonetheless. 

If it were to come to fruition, Carpenter’s appearance in Tangled would add to the pop star to actress pipeline that feels especially fitting for the role. If you recall, Moore — who voiced the princess in the original film — began her career as a bubblegum pop singer in 1999 before pivoting to acting, perhaps paving the way for a similar trajectory for Carpenter. That built-in story itself feels like fairytale wish fulfillment, which fellow singer-turned-actress Ariana Grande might also know a thing or two about.
