The incident took place around 1 PM when the intruder, who was suspected to be under the influence of drugs, climbed over a wall to get into the restricted area. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Royal and Specialist Protection Command responded quickly and arrested the individual. The suspect was taken into custody for tresing on a protected site and for having Class A drugs. Giuffre claimed that she was sex trafficked to Andrew who she claims sexually abused her when she was 17. The Prince denied the claims but his refusal to speak to the FBI made him look guilty in the eyes of the public. He’s even actively avoided going to the states in case he were to be arrested.

Towards the end of last year Andrew embarrassed the royal household again when news of his close association with a supposed Chinese spy became public knowledge. 

The truth is, Andrew isn’t good for the royal family, at least in of popularity. As a matter of fact he’s even less popular than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which is a pretty impressive feat. A recent YouGov poll found that Meghan had a positive score of 20%, meanwhile, Andrew only scored 5% when it came to positive public perception.

Some royals are much more liked than others. It’s not a competition of course, but if it were, Prince William would be winning. The future king has proven to be very much a beloved royal figure just as his mother, Princess Diana predicted.

A poll conducted by YouGov found that the British public had an overall positive opinion of William, 75% as a matter of fact. For comparison the second highest was the prince’s wife, Kate Middleton, with 72%. However, the British public aren’t particularly fond of the Sussexes with Harry and Meghan scoring 27 and 20 respectively. Still, it’s not as bad as Prince Andrew, who currently has a positive rating of 5%.

Of course, putting your family first doesn’t always equate to popularity. Even though Prince Harry arguably put his family first with his decision to step away from royal life and move to California, it hasn’t gone down well with the public. In fact most people would likely accuse the Sussexes of stabbing the royals in the back. As such Prince William seems to have cut his brother and Meghan out of his life altogether.

So clearly being a royal and being likeable isn’t as easy as it looks. It’s a fine line, a balancing act that could come tumbling down at the slightest error. William for his part has so far managed to artfully toe the line between royalty and relatability and it seems Diana saw that potential in him even when he was a child.

“When Paul Burrell published his first memoir, A Royal Duty, Princes William and Harry issued a t statement calling it “a cold and overt betrayal”. He refused to apologise.”

Fitzwilliams went on to speculate that given how “estranged” the two princes are nowadays “It is not possible to imagine a t reply from [the] brothers.” But either way, both will likely agree with each other on this one. When Burrell released his first book William and Harry did release a t statement which was reported on via The Guardian.

“We cannot believe that Paul, who was entrusted with so much, could abuse his position in such a cold and overt betrayal. It was not only deeply painful for the two of us but also for everyone else affected and it would mortify our mother if she were alive today.”

Prince Harry has since gone on to publicly speak about his experiences within the royal family, he even released his own tell-all memoir back in 2023. However, he has recently expressed a wish for reconciliation with his father and older brother. It’s not looking likely at the moment as the rift between William and Harry is so large. But this memoir could see them united at least in spirit against Paul Burrell.
