Yes, yes, get that “Wait.. WHAT?” reaction out of the way because this is very much a possible future for Amal Clooney under Donald Trump’s reign in America.

As reported by the Financial Times, many lawyers associated with the International Criminal Court (ICC), including Clooney, have been warned by the U.K. Foreign Office that they could be facing sanctions from the U.S. president for providing legal advice in the war crimes against Gaza case to the International Criminal Court against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Should Amal Clooney take this seriously?

Well, Trump has already issued Executive Order 14203, “Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court,” and under it, British lawyer Karim Khan became the first ICC official to face sanctions for advising in the case. All his U.S.-based assets were frozen, and he has been denied entry into the country.

Amal, who holds the license to practice law in the state of New York, also owns property in the U.S. with her husband, actor George Clooney (who has not been a Trump fan, to say the least). She is yet to be sanctioned or banned and these rumored sanctions do go against the United Nations Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers (1990) that ensures lawyers can perform their job without “intimidation, hindrance, harassment or improper interference” as well as remain free of being “threatened with, prosecution or istrative, economic or other sanctions for any action taken in accordance with recognized professional duties, standards and ethics.”

But when has Trump let the law dictate his actions?

In a chat with People, international criminal lawyer Alexandro Maria Tirelli warned that the possibility of Amal and other major barristers getting barred from America is very much there, as via his executive order, Trump invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977. It allows the U.S. president to go against the United Nations Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers when it comes to individuals who are labeled “hostile to American interests.”

According to Tirelli, the Trump istration will be making the decisions and while those facing the sanctions can challenge them with a federal lawsuit – for “violation of the right to due process,” “abuse of executive authority,” or “infringement of professional freedom” – they would be unable to enter the U.S. throughout the lengthy court case that can go on for two years.

“It was a failed istration”: A Democratic primary after Biden dropped out would have been better, says George Clooney https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/politics/it-was-a-failed-istration-a-democratic-primary-after-biden-dropped-out-would-have-been-better-says-george-clooney/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/politics/it-was-a-failed-istration-a-democratic-primary-after-biden-dropped-out-would-have-been-better-says-george-clooney/#respond Thu, 17 Apr 2025 14:00:00 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1848007 ]]>

George Clooney has again voiced his belief that the 2024 Democratic presidential race was mishandled. He said that a primary election should have been held after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, and it makes a lot of sense. It was as if Democrats were being forced into a choice they didn’t really make; they wanted Biden, and so it gave President Trump a boost in the election.

His comments, made during an interview with CNN, come as Democrats grapple with their losses in both the presidential and Senate races in 2024 and seek to strategize for 2028. Clooney said, “How they were running was that it was a failed istration.” Clooney said that former Vice President Kamala Harris inherited “the lead” of the campaign after Biden immediately threw his behind her.

“You can’t run against yourself, right? And that’s why that was a difficult campaign. It’s hard to run against yourself and say, ‘Well, I disagree with all this.'” He argued that running a campaign against the previous istration’s record, effectively running against themselves, made it exceptionally difficult to gain traction.

Clooney claims that Democrats should have opened up another primary

Clooney’s involvement in the lead-up to Biden’s withdrawal is significant. He authored a New York Times op-ed advocating for Biden to step aside, a move he described to Tapper as a “civic duty.” This piece, published shortly after Biden’s poorly received debate performance against Donald Trump, was seen as a watershed moment, contributing to the mounting pressure on the President, which ultimately led to his decision to forgo re-election.

While Clooney quickly endorsed Harris after Biden’s withdrawal, he maintained that a primary should have been held, allowing other potential candidates to emerge and compete for the nomination. He highlighted several potential candidates who, in his view, could have offered a stronger alternative.

There were democrats like Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Among these, he singled out Moore, praising his handling of the Baltimore bridge collapse as an example of effective leadership. Instead, the party was given a candidate, the running mate. However, many wanted Biden, not his running mate.

Clooney’s preference for a primary reflects a belief that a contested race would have better prepared the party for the general election. This would have allowed for a more robust vetting of candidates and a clearer articulation of policy positions. His view implies a broader critique of the party’s decision-making process in 2024, highlighting a perceived lack of responsiveness to concerns about the President’s fitness for office.

Further insight into the backstage drama surrounding Clooney’s actions is provided by Chris Whipple’s book, Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History. Whipple details Clooney’s alleged fury at an MSNBC segment suggesting that former President Barack Obama may have influenced his decision to write the op-ed.

To be fair, Clooney isn’t a politician, and Harris was very close to winning. Delaying a frontrunner for the Democratic party may have hurt more than it helped. At this point, Biden dropping out may have been the primary factor in the loss, but it is all speculation.

Nobody holds a grudge longer than a man-child who acts like a petulant child throwing tantrums around the clock and demanding adoration for his mindless tactics. Since we are getting a little too specific here, the topic for today is America’s 48th president Donald Trump, and his inability to hide his jealousy over George Clooney getting what he couldn’t…

… i.e., coming out of a 60 Minutes interview looking good and someone with enough brain cells to have logical opinions. Something that Clooney bagged with incredible ease when he appeared on the recent episode of the renowned newsmagazine and slammed the Trump istration’s ongoing push of “using the government” to stifle journalists in order to dominate the “freedom of the press.” So far, Trump and team have sued ABC News and are currently in the process of suing CBS News and 60 Minutes for $10 billion. Add this to the ousting of news organizations from their workspaces at the Pentagon in favor of more pro-Trump outlets.

You get zero points to guess who decided to type out a vitriolic, insensitive message to criticize 60 Minutes, Clooney, looped in Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and yelled “fake news” yet again while ignoring to talk about deportation numbers, why he gutted environmental protections, or explaining the logic behind handing out billionaires tax breaks while deficit hit a record $1.147 trillion.

Where is this frankly childish ire coming from? Well, it goes back to Trump’s first and only interview with 60 minutes back in 2020, just before Biden won the election. At the time, the current POTUS abruptly ended the interview with host Lesley Stahl after getting increasingly agitated over 45 minutes which saw him facing questions about his stunted responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, his supposed replacement plan for Obamacare that never materialized, or the dip in the percentage of Americans willing to vote for him. His attempts to dodge the questioning by lobbing unsubstantiated allegations at Biden and former President Barack Obama did nothing to alter the course of the interview, thus pushing him to abandon it and refusing to appear with Mike Pence later.

Not that anyone ever forgot the fiasco the interview ended up being, Trump complaining about Clooney getting time on 60 Minutes further shied the spotlight on what his bold claims fail to hide.

Apparently, the president of America has nothing better to do than rant about a celebrity sharing his opinions.

Considering the fact that he is busy repelling and canceling laws and policies in his drive to “make America great again” and devoting what is left to babysit Elon Musk’s son, Trump should probably be lauded for finding the time to watch a celebrity he thinks doesn’t deserve any attention appearing in a show that “highly discredited” him once enough that he backed out of appearing on it a second time in 2024.

‘I can’t tell you that’: Umm, why is George Clooney ‘not allowed’ to reveal how he met Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/news/i-cant-tell-you-that-umm-why-is-george-clooney-not-allowed-to-reveal-how-he-met-prince-harry-and-meghan-markle/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/news/i-cant-tell-you-that-umm-why-is-george-clooney-not-allowed-to-reveal-how-he-met-prince-harry-and-meghan-markle/#respond Wed, 05 Feb 2025 09:44:13 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1831012 Were the Hollywood actor and his wife forced to sign an NDA?]]>

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no strangers to Hollywood’s A-list crowd and have effortlessly secured friendships and connections with some of the biggest names in the industry. But when it comes to how they first connected with certain high-profile pals, the details remain curiously hush-hush — especially the one involving actor George Clooney.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been spotted rubbing shoulders with sports and fashion couple David and Victoria Beckham, reality TV star Kris Jenner, model Chrissy Teigen, television host Oprah Winfrey, and Meghan’s former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer.

However, to this day, one of their most intriguing friendships is with George and Amal Clooney, who were among the 600 elite guests Prince Harry and Markle invited to their royal wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018. At the opulent ceremony, the couple seemed to have been given special treatment as they were seated alongside some of the notable names in the monarchy. For instance, they were sitting with Lady Carolyn Warren and Viscount Linley. Warren is the wife of John Warren, the late Queen Elizabeth’s bloodstock adviser, while Linley is Princess Margaret’s son.

Considering that Markle only started dating Harry two years before the wedding, it was curious how she got close to a Hollywood A-list star and his wife in a short period. At the same time, it was a big mystery how Clooney and Amal secured an invite to a big royal event and when Clooney was asked point-blank about it, he downright refused to spill.

Weeks after the wedding, Access Hollywood host Scott Evans pressed the Oscar winner in a playful game of “True or False,” asking how he first met the Sussexes. Surprisingly, Clooney’s response was very cryptic, saying, “I can’t tell you that… I am not allowed to,” as reported by Express. His wife, Amal, also played it coy after being taken aback by the inquiry. She sidestepped any juicy details and instead offered a more polished response: “We are really happy for the bride and groom. I think they are going to do great things in the world together.”

The couple’s statements continue to intrigue royal fans today as it seems they’re forbidden to disclose how they got into the royal couple’s circles. In comparison, details about Markle’s friendships with other celebrities are out there. For instance, it’s well-known that she and tennis superstar Serena Williams first at the 2010 Super Bowl and met again at the same annual event in 2014. Their casual interactions led to them becoming close, and now they are the best of friends, according to People.

While the Clooneys are hesitant to divulge information about their close ties with Markle and her husband, Finding Freedom authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie detailed in their book that George and Amal actually hosted the royal couple at their sprawling British estate in Sonning, Oxfordshire, on at least two occasions.

Additionally, when Prince Harry and his wife jetted off to Lake Como for a luxe getaway, they stayed at Clooney’s Italian villa. Even Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, were in attendance. During their stay, the Duke of Sussex had a blast playing with the Clooneys’ twins. It’s unclear why the actor and his lawyer wife are reluctant to share this and more details about their friendship with the public.

For many people, the choice offered on Nov. 5, 2024 couldn’t have been more clear, but a truly terrifying number of Americans proved us wrong. They elected Donald Trump for a second term, and in the process destroyed the hope many people had for the future of our country.

That group of devastated souls includes several major politicians and Hollywood stars, like George Clooney, who famously wrote about Joe Biden’s lack of aptitude for another term. The 63-year-old shared, via a July letter published by the New York Times, that — while he continues to hold love for Biden — he felt Democrats needed a new nominee.

Which is exactly what we got, in the form of Kamala Harris, a wise decision that unfortunately did not yield a Demoratic win. It instead paved the way for another Trump term, due to a myriad of factors including sexism, racism, stark political division, and misinformation. Regardless of the precise causes, Trump’s November victory served as a heartbreaking moment for many Americans, some of whom are completely fed up.

Clooney is among the group of Americans so tired of the country they’re ready to throw in the towel, according to rampant online chatter, which may rob the nation of the silver-haired fox for good. Rumors have been swirling for months now that Clooney is on his way out, but its not the first time people have claimed the “red wave” is pushing out Democrat A-listers.

Is George Clooney really ditching the U.S. for greener pastures?

Essentially any time an unpopular politician (see: every politician) is elected, a portion of the country spirals into despair, and no shortage of them threaten to leave the country for good. There was no shortage of such threats in the wake of Donald Trump’s second victory, as millions of Americans were forced to face the reality of another four years of chaos.

At the head of the traumatized pack were several high-profile celebrities, including Oprah and Clooney. Both were adamant ers of Kamala Harris, and — like a good half of the nation — were devastated to learn that she lost to Trump. That led to instant claims that they’d be ditching our shores for greener pastures — but you should never believe everything you read online.

For one thing, various quotes attributed to Clooney — including the ones claiming he “can’t take the red wave anymore” — aren’t actually real. Those are fabricated by various misinformation or satire sites, looking to lure people in under false pretenses. In reality, neither Clooney nor Oprah (nor Olivia Rodrigo, Mark Hamill, or Miley Cyrus) ever said they were going to leave, and they have no actual plans to depart the country.

The claim, which has been circulating on social media for months now, was deemed patently false by Snopes, which notes that the Clooneys have long owned properties outside the States. So yeah, they don’t spend all their time here — but they haven’t since 2014. That doesn’t mean that Clooney is done with America for good, but it might mean we see a bit less of him over the next four years.

With Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election should George Clooney be the ire of the Democratic Party and take blame for the defeat?

On June 11, President Joe Biden clinched the 2024 Democratic nomination but little did anyone know at the time that he would soon be talked into stepping down. Despite a concerning job approval rating of under 40%, Democrats remained optimistic. After all, Obama’s job approval rating was 38% in 2011 but he was still re-elected in 2012.

Biden, a very pro-union president, easily won the endorsement of United Steelworkers back in March but union in Pennsylvania decided to vote for Trump once Biden dropped out. Hence, Bernie Sanders’ recent comments suggesting the Democratic Party has abandoned the working class.

In 2020, Biden won Michigan and Pennsylvania due to union . This is partly why Philadelphia Democratic Chairman Bob Brady recently said Biden would have been re-elected if he were the nominee.

The presidential debate didn’t help. The general reaction was that Biden did not perform well. George Clooney, a darling of the Democratic Party despite his primary residence being in , wasn’t happy. So, he decided to write an op-ed to be published in the New York Times.

One month earlier, Clooney had helped raise funds for Biden’s campaign but panicked when he observed that Biden wasn’t the same as he was before. Clooney withdrew his for Biden, explaining, “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

The most scathing statement in his editorial simply reads, “We are not going to win in November with this president.” Clooney’s claim was based on Biden’s health, but Biden defeated Trump in 2020 despite voter concerns about his health.

In 2024, Biden was the best option to defeat Trump. How can one think that changing the presidential nominee two months before the election would somehow result in a victory? This also showed Democrats that their respective votes in the primary were irrelevant.

Clooney didn’t consider that Trump’s chances of winning would greatly increase if the Dems changed the nominee. They had the incumbent president yet honestly believed someone else had a better chance despite initially not even knowing who that someone else was.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison had consistently ed Biden’s run for re-election but Clooney’s letter couldn’t be ignored. Suddenly, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and other big names within the party expressed similar thoughts. The worst part was that Clooney’s letter would cause damage even if Biden did run.

Did George Clooney overreact? Who is he to determine whether or not the president is fit for the job? Perhaps he thought his opinion carried such weight because he played a doctor on TV. Perhaps he thought he could be a hero because he played Batman. Perhaps he let it all go to his head and believed he knew better than everyone else simply because he was a Hollywood star.

He doesn’t.

If Biden had been reelected and, for example, his health significantly declined in 2025 then he could’ve reasonably been considered unfit for office and replaced by Kamala Harris.

Ironically, it was Harris who became the nominee. Why did the DNC believe she had to run for president when she simply would’ve become president if Biden’s supposed ailing health failed him? I won’t hold my breath for Clooney’s op-ed apology.

In the conversation about film, a picture’s prestige as a piece of art should be the foremost talking point. What ideas does it deal with? How do all the collaborators approach the work? What are the nuances of the storytelling engine? Are they traditionally robust and efficient, or adventurous in a way that pays off?

All much more engaging questions than how it performs from a box office or streaming chart perspective. American Fiction, for instance, made less than half of what Tarot did at the box office, and the latter has occupied top streaming spots for quite a while now.

Now imagine topping a streaming chart — an accomplishment that, given the volatility of viewers’ attention, carries the same weight as spelling your name correctly on your resume — which consists of the same 10-15 movies for most of the year, all while being buoyed by your star power and status as a brand-new movie. I speak, of course, of Wolfs.

Brad Pitt George Clooney Wolfs Apple TV Plus

Per FlixPatrol, the unceremonious reunion of George Clooney and Brad Pitt — an alliance about as famous as the individuals themselves — has been enjoying a lofty lead at the top of the Apple TV Plus Top 10 film rankings. The caveat to this, of course, is that Apple TV Plus only counts its in-house productions as chart competitors, which number 34 at the time of writing, meaning nearly a third of the platform’s entire library is going to make this list. In other words, no s*** Wolfs is at the top of the charts right now — it’s the new rich kid on a minuscule playground.

The other main caveat to this accomplishment is that Wolfs simply isn’t a great film. There are, of course, far worse positions to be in than a 68% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Wolfs doesn’t make much of a secret that its raison d’etre is to let Clooney and Pitt riff on one another like it’s the aughts again. To its credit, that specific exercise works pretty well, but when it comes to the creative food chain, narrative deadweight reigns supreme, and the biome of Wolfs is no exception.

So if you’re turning to Apple TV Plus for movie night, your best bet might not be the popular choice. Indeed, for some of the best the platform has to offer, you’ll have far more luck peering outside of the Top 10, where the likes of CODA, Tetris, Swan Song, Fingernails, Fancy Dance, and Wolfwalkers all reside.

As far as chemistry, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are a delight in Wolfs. But this action-comedy lazily toes the line between both genres, without ever truly committing to either.

Sure, every Clooney-Pitt pairing restores some balance to the world, but there’s only so much two juggernauts can achieve with a plot that underestimates itself. This crime caper offers a fun, exciting, and predictable reunion, but chooses to drag itself behind the charisma of its leads.

In Wolfs, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are fixers – the men to call whenever you want a problem “taken care of.” However, they’re unaware of each other’s existence, and butt heads when they’re hired to clean up on the same job. Cue in their incessant banter, reminiscent of their time together in the Ocean’s franchise. But unlike Ocean’s, there’s not much of a ing cast to shield us from the constant clashing between the two actors. To put it lightly, both Clooney and Pitt, while charming, become insufferable rather quickly, and that’s because there’s not enough material to work with.

Amy Ryan in "Wolfs"

Amy Ryan opens the film as the District Attorney in need of professional help, and when the two fixers show up, we bid her farewell. In the same vein, Poorna Jagannathan stars as June, the off-the-table doctor who assists the men with a medical emergency. At just under 1 hour and 48 minutes, one would expect that the combination of Pitt and Clooney are sufficient to keep things fresh. Unfortunately, the monotonous dialogue and tedious scenes overpower their witty back-and-forth as frenemies.

Thankfully, there’s room for a few breaths, as Austin Abrams succeeds in stealing a few scenes, which is a great feat considering the caliber of his co-stars. Although, spending six-minutes in your underwear being chased by Brad Pitt across town is sure to leave you hooked for the time being. Throw in a desperate two-minute monologue about wanting to feel like you belong, and Abrams just might be the backhanded star of Wolfs.

Austin Abrams in "Wolfs"

In the midst of the emptiness surrounding them, both Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s unnamed characters excel when they’re simply taking digs at each other. It’s very easy to see the actors in their roles – as two adult fixers with back problems, who still think they’re the best in the game. Perhaps the movie is holding a mirror to the veterans’ lives, as both of them once dominated theaters, but are now left with limited theatrical screenings, before settling comfortably on streaming. Regardless, while they might not move with the speed of their 2000s selves, their verbal quips prove that Clooney and Pitt still possess a star quality that won’t diminish just yet.

So is Wolfs a vanity project? In a sense, because it’s a pretty good guess that both actors just wanted to spend some together for a while on-screen. It’s also reason enough to believe that Pitt and Clooney are not actively chasing any serious merits, but the simple accolade that they “still got it!” However, with a little extra time in the writer’s room, Wolfs really could have shone as an avenue to showcase the lighter, comedic side of both stars, especially as they trade their swift agility for a few humorous back cracking. Having found a home on Apple TV Plus, Wolfs has a fighting chance to succeed on streaming, but it’s a no-brainer that it’s the Clooney-Pitt effect that will largely contribute to this.

Behind the camera is Jon Watts, the director responsible for the billion-dollar Spider-Man reboot films. For Wolfs, he swaps bright CGI storytelling for a darker, yet incomplete tale with multiple plot holes. The writer and director’s first film since No Way Home targets a more mature audience, but misses the mark by greatly underutilizing two of Hollywood’s biggest names. Being charged with resurrecting the Hollywood bromance is no easy task, but Watts was handed the best kind of bait, but still fails to translate a tried and true bromance onto the screen. Nonetheless, Wolfs is brilliantly shot, with a juxtaposing tone that feels nostalgic, yet fresh. It’s a taste of what Watts could bring to the table post-Marvel, and shows serious promise. Although his pen needs polishing, his eye could very well be the best tool in his arsenal.

Altogether, Wolfs leaves much to be desired, no matter how much of a visual feast the Clooney-Pitt duo is on screen. With the number of celebrated movies between them, Wolfs will ultimately be lost in the catalogs of these two Hollywood titans. And while a sequel has already been confirmed, it’s going to take a lot more than their appealing gray stubbles, and Sade’s “Smooth Criminal” in the background, to keep viewers entertained.

New Marvel characters are being introduced with each fresh entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there are only so many larger-than-life villains left to bring into the fold. One of these villains has already been teased, or at least hinted at, and fans are convinced that he’ll be popping up in an MCU project any day now. That villain is the master demon of Hell, Mephisto.

In the comic books, Mephisto has encountered and exploited many a hero by making deals with them, like infamously getting Peter Parker to wish away his marriage with Mary Jane Watson to save the life of his Aunt May, or making the pact with Johnny Blaze that led to him becoming Ghost Rider. If Mephisto were to the MCU, there are plenty of choices for who could play him. Given the hype around the series Agatha All Along, many Marvel fans believe this could be where Mephisto makes his first official appearance. If that does indeed happen, here are our top 12 choices for who should play the fiery foe.

12. George Clooney

Look, Mephisto is someone who can get people to sign on the dotted line, right? Then he’ll need to be played by someone with charisma, and who’s more charismatic than George Clooney? Clooney has not touched a superhero role since Batman and Robin (or The Flash, if that counts), wherein he infamously played the Dark Knight before fleeing the hero scene entirely. If you can’t recall where else you’ve seen Clooney before, I have questions, as he’s the star of major titles like The Ides of March, Up in the Air, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and ER. Now in his silver fox era, Clooney could easily switch sides and play a villainous role more akin to the morally gray characters he usually plays, like Danny in the Ocean’s 11 franchise.

11. Sean Penn

Sean Penn in 'The Gunman'

Even though Sean Penn is not necessarily known for playing bad guys, he has an aura that would make him perfect for Mephisto. The Milk actor is one of a few actors on this list who is quite selective of the roles he picks, and like many other Hollywood stars, there’s a chance he might not want to go down the Marvel path. The one thing that might work in his favor is that he recently starred in a miniseries called Gaslit. If Penn is willing to act on a TV series (something many actors avoided like the plague in a pre-streaming world), perhaps he’s willing to play in the Marvel sandbox under the right circumstances ⏤ Mephisto circumstances. (Insert devilish grin here.)

10. Daniel Day-Lewis

Daniel Day-Lewis in 'Gangs of New York'

Regarded as one of the best actors of his generation, Daniel Day-Lewis would be a perfect Mephisto, although in all fairness, there aren’t many characters he wouldn’t be suited for. You know him from Gangs of New York, Lincoln, and There Will Be Blood, but the legendary actor retired after starring in Phantom Thread, making the chances of him coming out of retirement for a Marvel role quite low (unless he needs a new house or something). Day-Lewis is also perhaps the most famous method actor alive, so we’d hate to see him go to hell and back just to play Mephisto, but hey! It would be worth it, at least on our end.

9. Wes Bentley

Yellowstone Wes Bentley

Wes Bentley might be one of the more intriguing choices on this list, as he’s perhaps the least well-known. You most likely recognize him from Yellowstone, but he’s also made notable appearances in American Beauty, The Hunger Games, and Interstellar. Like a couple of the other actors on this list, he would nail the devilish look of Mephisto’s character, as evidenced by his Hunger Games character Seneca Crane. Curiously, Bentley has already appeared in the Marvel Universe, just not in the MCU. He played Blackheart in 2007’s Ghost Rider, the main villain in the movie and the son of Mephisto (as played by Peter Fonda). Thus, a contemporary Mephisto casting would be the perfect throwback, even if just for the satisfyingly full-circle multiversal cameo moment it would create.

8. Sacha Baron Cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen might be the most interesting choice for Mephisto on this list, because there’s a chance he’s already been cast. You likely know the actor from the zany characters he’s played in the past ⏤ Borat, Ali G, Bruno ⏤ and while he’s mostly known for his comedic roles, it takes serious acting chops to expertly execute comedy. Cohen has also proven himself in more serious projects, including Sweeney Todd and his Oscar-nominated turn in The Trial of the Chicago 7, and his ability to juggle the two genres makes him perfect for a Marvel villain. It was previously rumored that Cohen might be playing a role in the Ironheart series, so whether he appears in Agatha or Ironheart, you won’t hear us objecting ⏤ especially if the role he ultimately plays comes complete with a lot of red and spiky black hair.

7. Al Pacino

This choice might be a tad older than what Marvel Studios is looking for, but you can’t deny that Al Pacino would be an excellent Mephisto. You likely know the Oscar-winning actor from his roles in The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, and Scent of a Woman, and we already know he can pull off a devilish character following his turn in The Devil’s Advocate to see that. Again, Marvel is probably looking for somebody a bit younger to play the role in more than one project, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have the demon change his appearance (you know, like Marvel could have done with Kang) and get at least one Pacino version of the character. Just like being killed by your cat, it’s unlikely, but not impossible.

6. Bryan Cranston

You know who would make a terrific Mephisto? Walter White himself, Bryan Cranston. If you don’t know him from Breaking Bad, you might recognize him from Malcolm in the Middle, Argo, or his newest series, Your Honor. If we’ve learned anything from Cranston’s performance as White, it’s that he has range ⏤ range enough to go from playing a relatively normal person to a villain at the drop of a hat. It does seem weird that neither Marvel nor DC has tapped the actor for a role in either superhero franchise, at least that we know about, but if Marvel gets to him first, we’ve got our money on him playing a meanie. Cranston would bring customary depth to Mephisto, which is why we wouldn’t be mad if he stuck around for several MCU appearances.

5. Denzel Washington

Known for his roles in Fences, The Equalizer, Glory, American Gangster, and Malcolm X, Denzel Washington would make an unprecedented Mephisto. He might not be the most conventional choice for the role, as he doesn’t resemble the comic book version of the character, but if you simplify Mephisto down to his actions and nature, Washington would be more than able to execute. Like Penn, however, he’s an actor whose prestige might stop him from snagging a role in a superhero film, or he might not have been offered the right opportunity. Either way, Mephisto would be the perfect character for Washington to portray, as it would allow him to chew on some scenery and inhabit one of the best villains the MCU has to offer.

4. Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy is best known for his roles in The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Venom. He’s proven himself to be a versatile actor with performances that often sizzle with a raw, visceral energy. Given how iconic his version of Bane became (who can forget that voice?), his portrayal of Mephisto would inevitably be as charismatic as it would be terrifying. Hardy’s chameleonic ability as an actor (how charming was he in Inception?) would allow him to explore the many layers of Mephisto’s character, from his cunning manipulations to his underlying malevolence. Whether he’s delivering sly, devilish quips or unleashing his full wrath, Hardy could easily become one of the most memorable faces to battle the Avengers, especially after playing the lovable Eddie Brock for six years.

3. Joaquin Phoenix

The people’s Joker is about to make an epic on-screen return in the form of Joker: Folie à Deux, but that doesn’t mean Joaquin Phoenix is limited only to DC villainy. He did such a captivating job bringing Arthur Fleck to life that he won a freaking Oscar for his performance, and that kind of gravitas should not be confined to only one superheroic universe. Sure, it would likely cost Marvel a pretty penny, but Phoenix would be a natural fit for the MCU’s Mephisto. You already know he’d bring a unique take to the table ⏤ so unique, in fact, that it has the potential to blow previous villainous appearances like Josh Brolin’s Thanos and Cate Blanchett’s Hela out of the water. Whether or not Phoenix would be willing to step into another big bad’s shoes is another story, but if he did decide to embrace Mephisto, it would truly be our gain.

2. Javier Bardem

Oh, Javier. That trident-wielding, eat-pray-loving, No Country For Old Men James Bond baddie. The guy can do it all, and has. He’s an Oscar-winning phenomenon who gives every fiber of his being to every role he plays. Javier Bardem as Mephisto? Sweetie. You know that would be next-level. Bardem is no stranger to villainy, and at this point in his career, it would be refreshing for him to find the deliciously devilish notes in Mephisto as opposed to going directly for the jugular like he tends to with his bad guys. Bardem would be adept at balancing the darkness with the wicked glee, both of which are crucial for embodying this character. He’s already got that sinister gleam in his eye; now he just needs the chance to unleash the devil within.

1. Keanu Reeves

Ladies and gentlemen, our #1 choice for Mephisto: the one and only Keanu Reeves. He’s no stranger to brooding rabble-ros, but as time has shown us, we tend to see playing the hero. How refreshing would it be to see him swoop in and wreak utter havoc in the MCU? In this character’s shoes, he would have the opportunity to throw the Neo and John Wick rulebooks out the window and start a fresh era as the last guy you’d want to meet in a dark alley. Now that Jonathan Majors is officially done as Kang, it’s time for someone else to step up as the multi-project big bad before Robert Downey Jr. makes his grand reappearance and dominates the MCU all over again. Reeves is that person, and he has the star (and staying) power to dominate at least a few series and films before Downey’s Doom takes the mantle (or partners up with him so they can take over the universe together ⏤ could you imagine?). Whoever becomes Mephisto, any one of these 12 actors would make excellent choices. Now we just need Marvel to knock it off with the breadcrumbs and commit to bringing this demon to the screen already.

Cardi B

Harris gained the of over 44,000 Black women not even a full day after she launched her campaign during a virtual Zoom event that raised over $1 million in under three hours. This, however, was only a small example of the effect that Black women who are backing her have on the outcome of this election. A-list rapper and songwriter Cardi B is one of the many strong Black women ing Harris without question. After first ing her on her Instagram with a video on June 30, Cardi reshared the video following her endorsement by Biden, cementing her .

Mark Hamill

Star Wars leading man Mark Hamill has been vividly active on social media in recent years, constantly calling out Trump and his goons for their endless incompetencies and ing the Democrats at every turn. When President Biden chose to give up his seat in favor of Harris on June 21, Hamill quickly took to X on June 22 and extended his official endorsement for her along with a picture he’d previously taken with the Vice President.

Barbra Streisand

Veteran singer, actress, songwriter, producer, and director Barbra Streisand has also ed the list of celebrities coming out in of Harris. In a recent statement to The New York Times, she said, “I’m so grateful to President Biden and so excited to Kamala Harris. She will work to restore women’s reproductive freedom and continue with the accomplishments begun in the Biden-Harris istration.” Previously, Streisand had shared a post on her X in which she called Trump “a pathological liar who lies as easily as he breathes.” She then continued by expressing her faith in Harris, saying “Kamala Harris will continue Joe Biden’s work and will be a great president.”

Olivia Rodrigo

The young and globally beloved singer-songwriter and actress Olivia Rodrigo has also publicly endorsed Harris as the perfect presidential candidate. The 21-year-old took to her Instagram on July 24, posting a story featuring a TikTok clip of Harris’s speech on abortion rights. Rodrigo herself has been a strong advocate for women’s right to abortion and had previously started the “Good 4 U Fund,” an effort to remove obstacles to accessing abortion treatment. The fund donated a portion of ticket sales from Rodrigo’s “Guts” tour to pay for childcare, travel, abortion-related expenses, and missed income. Her endorsement of Harris is sure to resonate with her legion of fans, many of whom are in the Gen Z age bracket and will be voting in the 2024 election for the first time.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Academy Award-winning actress, producer, and author Jamie Lee Curtis has been a longtime vocal critic of Donald Trump, especially during his term in office. She is constantly endorsing Democratic candidates for multiple positions in the 2024 election and recently extended her endorsement for Harris through an Instagram post, calling her “a fierce advocate for women’s rights and people of color.”

Viola Davis

Ranked as one of the greatest actors of the 21st century, Viola Davis posted a picture of Biden and Harris along with the caption, “I’m with her! ✊🏿💙💙💙💙,” confirming her for Harris as the next presidential candidate. The picture and the rest of the caption were a repost of Harris’ own Instagram post, which thanked Biden for endorsing her and promised to defeat Donald Trump.

John Legend

Multi-talented singer, songwriter, pianist, record producer, and actor John Legend was one of the first celebrities to endorse Harris after Biden announced that he was stepping out of the race. In an Instagram post (a screenshot of his Threads post), he penned a long message praising Biden and announcing that he is “so ready” to elect Kamala Harris as the next president “to help unite the pro-democracy coalition to reject Trump’s authoritarian, oppressive Project 2025.”

With all these endorsements, and more arriving every day, Harris is already seeing the kind of widespread that could see her become the first female President of the United States ⏤ a notion that is already making Donald and the MAGAs shake in their boots.

‘My longtime crush on George Clooney died this week’: Just like that, George Clooney transitioned from Hollywood heartthrob to American headache https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/politics/my-longtime-crush-on-george-clooney-died-this-week-just-like-that-george-clooney-transitioned-from-hollywood-heartthrob-to-american-headache/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/politics/my-longtime-crush-on-george-clooney-died-this-week-just-like-that-george-clooney-transitioned-from-hollywood-heartthrob-to-american-headache/#respond Sat, 13 Jul 2024 14:19:13 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1723180 Clooney's controversial gamble has cost him a lot of social capital.]]>

George Clooney, the silver-haired fox of Hollywood, has long been known for his dazzling smile, charming wit, and progressive political views. But this week, many fans are questioning their loyalty to the actor-turned-activist.

Clooney’s social media bashing began after he penned an op-ed published in The New York Times, where he called for President Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 presidential race. The actor, known for his suave demeanor and liberal leanings, suddenly found himself at the center of a political firestorm, with ers and critics alike weighing in on his unexpected stance.

In his piece, Clooney praised Biden’s past accomplishments but expressed concern about the president’s ability to win the election, citing age as a significant factor. He wrote, “The Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010,” alluding to a noticeable decline in the president’s vigor. While Clooney’s concerns about Biden’s age aren’t entirely unfounded, the timing and platform of his critique have raised eyebrows.

Why are people so angry about George Clooney’s political stance?

With just three months left until the election, many view this celebrity intervention as potentially damaging to the Democratic cause. After all, nothing says “I’m helping” quite like throwing a wrench into your own party’s campaign strategy at the eleventh hour. It’s almost as if Clooney took a page out of the Republican playbook on how to create chaos and confusion!

It’s worth noting that Clooney isn’t alone in his critique. Other Hollywood figures, including Michael Douglas and Rob Reiner, have echoed similar sentiments. However, Clooney’s star power and previous unwavering for Biden have made his op-ed particularly impactful – and controversial. Critics argue that this sudden celebrity effort to push Biden out could sway public opinion in favor of the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.

If not even Biden’s allies believe in his election, what’s preventing voters from placing their bets on Trump? The backlash against Clooney has been swift and fierce. Many longtime fans have expressed disappointment and frustration with the actor’s decision to undermine Biden’s campaign publicly.

So, despite his best intentions, Clooney’s statement may inadvertently boost the chances of victory of a man who thinks the Constitution is just a fancy coaster for his Diet Coke. Perhaps this incident serves as a reminder that even our most beloved celebrities are fallible and that mixing Hollywood glamour with high-stakes politics can be a recipe for disaster.

George Clooney’s Biden Op-Ed, explained https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/politics/george-clooneys-biden-op-ed-explained/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 20:16:22 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1721671 Clooney voiced his opinion on Biden in the New York Times, which has received mixed responses.]]>

George Clooney has tossed his hat into the ring of the ongoing debate among Democrats as to whether or not Joe Biden should be the party’s official nominee in the presidential election. In a bluntly-worded guest op-ed in the New York Times, Clooney made clear he thinks President Biden should bow out, and the result is intense conversations and ruffled feathers.

Other celebrities have already voiced their opinion on Biden, strongly urging the President of the United States of America not to run for a second term.

Rob Reiner has been vocal about it on a daily basis on X, while Bill Maher has been stating it for months on his show Real Time with Bill Maher. Recently, Stephen King applauded Biden’s presidency, but also opined it was time for him to go.

However, there has been pushback to Clooney’s NYT essay, with many Democrat voters expressing their belief that if Biden doesn’t run for re-election, then Donald Trump will certainly win the presidency. This viewpoint hasn’t garnered as much attention, unfortunately, because the opinions of celebrities seem to wield a significantly bigger influence within the party, which also adds to the frustration of the common voter.

Enter George Clooney. He hosted a fundraiser for Biden three weeks ago when he helped the party raise $14 million for his campaign. Surely, he will be a vote for Biden.

Apparently, Clooney partly based his NYT op-ed on his experience with Biden at that fundraiser.

In his essay, Clooney calls Biden a friend, but also claims that the President is not the same man from 2020, adding, “This is about age. Nothing more. But also nothing that can be reversed. We are not going to win in November with this president.”

The op-ed is one of the biggest topics on social media presently, and adds to the big celeb scramble to push Biden out of the presidency.

However, not all reactions to Clooney’s op-ed are positive, because many non-celebrity voters — whose lives are more impacted by who the president is than a celebrity’s — are infuriated by Clooney’s statements. They speak with their vote, as they did in the primary, and they strongly believe that Biden is the ONLY one who can beat Trump, especially considering that changing the candidate now would likely be the same as stating that the Democratic party doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Clooney disagrees in his op-ed, more or less dismissing the primary as insignificant, explaining, “It is disingenuous, at best, to argue that Democrats have already spoken with their vote and therefore the nomination is settled and done, when we just received new and upsetting information.”

The new and upsetting information that Clooney is referring to is Biden’s health and cognitive issues, something that has been a hot topic for two years on social media and, contrary to Clooney’s claim, is not really news at all. The debate did not reveal anything that the common voter didn’t already know.

The question now is whether or not the party will heed the common voter or the celebrity.

Furthermore — and perhaps lost in all of this — if Biden wins re-election but his health issues ultimately force him to step down, then that’s what the Vice President is for. Thus, a call for Biden to step down is no different than a lack of confidence in Kamala Harris. This signifies to the independent voter that the donkey party doesn’t believe in either the President or Vice President.

Clooney singed off on the op-ed by suggesting that Biden could be a hero if he steps down, penning, “Joe Biden is a hero; he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024.”

The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago from August 19 to 22, and given the inter-party grumbling and extremely high stakes, it could be the most contentious convention yet.
