Jonathan Majors‘ once-promising Hollywood career took a major hit following his highly publicized legal battle. However, one of his biggest ers is standing by him through thick and thin. Despite the fallout from Majors’ conviction for misdemeanor assault and harassment, Creed III director and Majors’ co-star, Michael B. Jordan, is making it clear that he still believes in his former co-star’s talent.

And that’s not all. Jordan is also open to working with him again.

Majors’ career nosedive

Before his March 2023 arrest, Majors was at the top of his game. He had just starred in Creed III, played Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and was gearing up for an Oscar campaign for Magazine Dreams. The industry was ready to make him the next big thing, with his role as the MCU’s next major villain putting him on track for life-changing success. However, all of that changed when Majors was convicted of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment involving his ex-girlfriend, British dancer Grace Jabbari.

As a result, he lost major projects, including his role as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hollywood distanced itself from him, and his future in the industry became uncertain. Majors was sentenced to a year of rehabilitative counseling, and a 52-week domestic violence intervention program. Whether or not audiences and studios will take him back remains an open question.

Jordan, who not only starred alongside Majors in Creed III but also directed the film, has been vocal about his . Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan mentioned in an email that he would love to make Creed IV, among other projects with Majors. In a recent interview with GQ, Jordan confirmed that he would be open to collaborating with Majors again. He even openly showed for his co-actor.

“Tough situation… but he’s doing great, just got engaged. I’m proud of his resilience and his strength through it all, and [his] handling [of] it. I’m glad he’s good. That’s my boy.”

That kind of endorsement from Jordan, one of Hollywood’s most respected actors and directors, could be crucial for Majors, especially as he tries to rebuild his career. Jordan’s words may help shift industry perception, signaling that the former MCU star still has allies in high places. With Creed IV officially confirmed, Jordan has a real opportunity to bring Majors back into the fold. In Creed III, Majors played Damian Anderson, Adonis Creed’s childhood friend-turned-rival, and his performance was widely praised. Bringing him back for a sequel would not only provide Majors with the much-needed comeback but also make sense for the Creed franchise.

Of course, the decision isn’t entirely up to Jordan. Studio executives will have the final say, and they may or may not hesitate to take a chance on Majors, given his recent legal troubles. Hollywood tends to be cautious when it comes to controversial figures, especially in today’s climate. However, the industry has also shown that redemption arcs are possible. One of the biggest factors in Majors’ potential comeback is audience reception.

While Hollywood may eventually offer him roles, it ultimately depends on whether moviegoers are willing to his projects. His film, Magazine Dreams, which received critical acclaim at Sundance, will be a litmus test. If audiences respond well to his performance, studios may be more inclined to take a chance on him.

Is Tessa Thompson really Deaf? https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/celebrities/is-tessa-thompson-really-deaf/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/celebrities/is-tessa-thompson-really-deaf/#respond Thu, 28 Sep 2023 23:51:00 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1059009 Her character in the 'Creed' films prompted many to wonder if her ties to sign language are more than just fictional.]]>

Actors playing characters whose lives are completely dissimilar from their own is the very definition of the creative profession. Sometimes, however, Hollywood takes it too far, which is why representation is so vital. Actress Tessa Thompson perfectly represents walking that fine line with reverence and grace.

When we meet Thompson in Ryan Coogler’s first Creed movie, she plays a young woman named Biana Taylor, an aspiring musician experiencing progressive hearing loss. Upon meeting Adonis (Michael B. Jordan), we discover that Bianca wears a hearing aid and is learning sign language in preparation for going completely deaf. Her storyline regarding hearing loss is explored further in the sequels Creed II and Creed III.

By the second movie, Bianca’s hearing loss has deepened. When Adonis gets down on one knee to propose, she misses his speech because her back is turned and she isn’t wearing her hearing aid. Later in the movie, she and Adonis give birth to a baby girl named Amara. Due to Bianca’s history of hearing loss, they have Amara tested and find out she is deaf.

Amara is a young girl by Creed III, and Bianca and Adonis have adjusted to incorporate American Sign Language (ASL) into their daily lives. The actress who played Amara, Mila Davis-Kent, is Deaf herself, and the movie leans into the Deaf experience far more than the previous two. As a result, many viewers wondered whether Thompson is also Deaf, especially since she delivers ASL with far more fluidity and fluency than most actors in Hollywood.

Is Tessa Thompson hard of hearing or Deaf?

No, Tessa Thompson is neither Deaf nor hard of hearing. In fact, Thompson made it a point to ensure her Creed character did not lose her hearing completely because, as she says, “I did not feel comfortable in telling that story. I’m not a member of the Deaf community,” according to Pearl & Dean.

Thompson herself has stated that she is a “proponent of people in their communities being able to tell their own stories.” That’s part of the reason why she advocated for Bianca not to go fully Deaf.

“Hollywood has an inclination sometimes to take stories and be exploitative, but that certainly wasn’t our intention,” she said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times upon releasing the first Creed. “There is a rich history of disabilities being something that we know stirs emotion and feels Oscar-baity. That is not the spirit with which we told this story.”

Thompson has spoken at length about the lack of Deaf representation in Hollywood and the importance of fixing that in interviews such as LIVE with Kelly and Ryan and Good Morning America.

“Our world is so biased toward the hearing world,” she said on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan. “I’m constantly having to unpack that bias. If someone is in front of me on the street and I want to get around them, I say, ‘Excuse me.’ The assumption is always that the person is hearing.”

“It’s a beautiful language,” she said on GMA in discussion of Creed III. “I’m so happy to have gotten the opportunity to learn. I think we really live in a world that is very biased toward the hearing community, and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that there isn’t just enough representation, and so I think to get to see a Deaf character in their humanity, just who they are, I think is hugely, hugely impactful. So I hope this film continues to make people curious about the community and want to learn ASL themselves.”

As a matter of fact, the Creed movies were born of a desire to incorporate the Deaf experience authentically. Ryan Coogler, who directed the first movie, is married to an ASL interpreter, Zinzi Evans. Although Michael B. Jordan went on to direct the third movie, the push for representation didn’t stop there. Creed III is by far the film’s most impactful movie when it comes to exploring the ordinary life of someone who is Deaf.

So, while Tessa Thompson might not be Deaf herself, her reverence for the Deaf community shines through, which is why so many people wondered if she was Deaf. No, she’s just an ally, and hopefully, she’s allowed more allies to the cause because, according to the National Library of Medicine, over 10 million people in America are hard of hearing or close to, and over one million people are functionally deaf. So, the time to reflect those numbers with proper accommodations and media representation was yesterday.

Sylvester Stallone is one of just six actors to achieve an astounding Oscar Award achievement https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/celebrities/sylvester-stallone-is-one-of-just-six-actors-to-achieve-an-astounding-oscar-award-achievement/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/celebrities/sylvester-stallone-is-one-of-just-six-actors-to-achieve-an-astounding-oscar-award-achievement/#respond Thu, 06 Jul 2023 16:35:14 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1529348 The 'Rocky' star is in pretty special company thanks to a quirky little fact about his Oscar nominations for playing the boxing champion.]]>

Sylvester Stallone turns 77 years old today, and the man most known for playing the parts of underdog boxer Rocky Balboa and PTSD-ridden soldier John Rambo has had plenty to celebrate career-wise during his long time under the spotlight.

https://twitter.com/TSting18/status/1676935754235117568

It hasn’t always been plain sailing for him when it comes to being in the public eye, and like all men in Hollywood over a certain age (and most under that age, too) there are serious and very dark question marks around his past behavior, but from a critical and box office standpoint it’s been a knockout few decades for Stallone. And, to underline this is a brilliant bit of Oscar-related trivia that showcases just how iconic he was as Rocky.

The interesting Acadamey Award tidbit about Stallone is that he’s one of just six actors to be nominated for an Oscar twice for playing the same character in two separate films. The first nomination, for Best Actor, came in 1977 after he starred in the original Rocky (he also received a nomination for Best Screenplay, as he wrote the film himself). His second came for Best ing Actor in 2016, after he reprised the role of Balboa for the film Creed. Considering the runaway critical and commercial success of the franchise, is it any wonder Stallone keeps pumping them out?

The other five actors who’ve been nominated for two Oscars for playing the same role in separate films are also screen and stage legends, cementing Stallone’s legacy.

Al Pacino, Paul Newman, and Cate Blanchett round out the list of famous names.

So, not exactly the worst company in the world for old Sly. However, it gets even more special if you dig a little deeper because it turns out Stallone is just one of three actors who has received both a Best ing Actor and Best Actor nomination for the same character. ing him is Pacino as Michael Corleone, and completing the list is the irrepressible Irish stage actor Barry Fitzgerald.

Funnily enough, Fitzgerald received both nominations for the same movie, one we’ve already mentioned in this article: Going My Way. In it, he played the grouchy, traditionalist Father Fitzgibbon, who clashes with Crosby’s O’Malley throughout the film. The Academy changed the rules about nominations after Fitzgerald was put up for both main male acting awards, making sure that in the future, someone couldn’t receive dual nominations for the same role in the same year.

Even though he created the franchise, secured three Academy Award nominations for his efforts, headlined six of the nine installments to date, directed two of them, and acted as the number one driving force behind cumulative box office takings well north of a billion dollars, Sylvester Stallone has never owned the rights to Rocky.

Instead, producer Irwin Winkler oversees the long-running property, which has seen Stallone cast out into the cold. Despite returning for Creed and its sequel, the Italian Stallion was nowhere to be found in the most recent chapter, leading many to voice their disappointment at star and director Michael B. Jordan opting to move forward without the beating heart of the entire universe.

The veteran action icon has voiced his disappointment on several occasions already, so you can only imagine how he’s feeling after the news broke that Amazon and MGM has opted to hand the keys to the Rocky kingdom over to Jordan, with the actor and producer developing an expanded universe that’s set to include additional feature films, spinoffs, a potential live-action TV series, and even an anime.

https://twitter.com/RadioGraffitiYT/status/1633999875082690560

It was confirmed a while back that talks were being held over Florian Munteanu’s Viktor Drago getting his own standalone film, but it’s a crying shame that Stallone has been cut out entirely. After all, he was the one who put pen to paper back in the mid-1970s and launched the boxing phenomenon to award-winning heights, but it looks as though his association with the brand is over as Jordan takes over as the new figurehead.

Maybe he can return in a cameo capacity, but Rocky carrying on without Sly involved in any capacity is going to sting for a lot of folks, not least of all Sly himself.

Review: ‘Creed III’ marks a confident and surprisingly vulnerable directorial debut for Michael B. Jordan https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/reviews/review-creed-iii-marks-a-confident-and-surprisingly-vulnerable-directorial-debut-for-michael-b-jordan/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/reviews/review-creed-iii-marks-a-confident-and-surprisingly-vulnerable-directorial-debut-for-michael-b-jordan/#respond Fri, 03 Mar 2023 17:04:20 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1439792 Jordan's complete understanding of his characters' inner and outer realities gives him the confidence needed to take rewarding risks in his directorial debut. ]]>

The third installment of the Creed series sees Michael B. Jordan step behind the camera for the first time in an environment that’s familiar enough to grant him the confidence needed to take risks, and it couldn’t have worked out better. Creed III is arguably the best of its trilogy, offering a matured and settled world to those who have been following the Rocky spinoffs since the first film came out in 2015, while throwing the audience enough curveballs and revelations to keep them engaged.

Adonis (Jordan) is now retired, confident in his knowledge that he built a career he can be proud of, happily married to Bianca (Tessa Thompson) and having masquerade tea parties with their daughter Amara (Mila Davis-Kent). That is, until the ghost of a past life that Adonis had been trying to forget comes back to haunt him in the form of Jonathan Majors’ volatile former teenage boxing champion Damian, effectively setting the emotional conflict of the film into motion.

With a much more reduced cast than its predecessors, and a bigger focus on internal struggle than physical brawls, Creed III is completely dependable on the chemistry of its core trio – a trust fall relatively easy to carry out when you’ve got Jordan, Thompson and Majors in your corner. It’s clear Jordan knows Adonis inside out by now, while Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin’s script gives him enough agency and space to explore depths unknown in the character both as an actor and as a director.

The insane chemistry between Jordan and Thompson – which has always been the heart of the series – is more grounded than ever, present in silent stares and domestic stages. When the two come together, it’s hard to believe the love you’re witnessing isn’t, in fact, flesh-and-bones, heart-on-sleeve real. Creed lucked out on its casting, because that type of onscreen partnership only comes by once in a while.

To be fair, Bianca, much like in Creed and Creed II before it, never really expands beyond a really good, solid, ive presence for the protagonist. Still, there’s an honest effort to give her some of her own personal conflict, to which Thompson grabs onto, tooth and nail. As Adonis struggles to come to with a recent development that is putting the entire life he built in jeopardy, Bianca is also trying to find the positives in the dismaying career turn imposed on her by her progressive hearing loss.

The entire Creed family is a joy to watch, with the highlight being the amount of respect lent to the portrayal of Amara’s hearing impairment, as well as her smooth inclusion in the narrative as her dad’s biggest fan. Her storyline revolves around her wanting to follow in his footsteps, allowing Adonis to make clear that boxing isn’t about violence but precision and focus – a small comment that, in turn, shifts the audience’s perception of every fight sequence to come.

The small moments Thompson shares with Phylicia Rashad as Adonis’ adoptive mother Mary Anne Creed positively come alive despite their reduced screen time, and the two make you believe every word when Bianca says Mary Anne was the closest thing she had to a mother.

Every time Majors and Thompson get to act off one another – regardless of Jordan’s presence – is also a pleasant surprise. The way the former manages to hold on to his character’s secrets for the longest possible time makes you cling onto his every expression, searching for answers you know will not be revealed until much later on. You fear Dame’s presence might destroy a lot more than just Adonis’ boxing career every time he hones in on Bianca – that the family unit this franchise has so graciously built over the course of three films might actually be in real danger. Yet, he never takes any step that’s too predictable, which somehow makes him even scarier.

Majors has perfected a balance between alluring and threatening that is very particular to his craft. Granted, his two latest major roles have been antagonists, but it’s obvious the Quantumania actor has mastered the art of making you root for the villain. Here, he imbues Dame with a kind of humanity with which it is impossible not to sympathize. Sure, the smart choice to make Creed III a story of childhood friends turned rivals helps with building a believable, complex character, but any other actor could have fallen in a number of the traps such a common-place formula sets up. Majors keeps it interesting by building a facade that is so hard to read, while always leaving just a speck of a wounded soul peaking out from underneath, that persuades you to keep watching to find out more.

As director, Jordan understands his characters, their motivations, and their stories. He knows the effect a foiled brotherhood can have on a man’s particular sense of pride. His directing is entirely reflective of this comprehension, and one only needs to listen to him speak on why he loves the animes which served as inspiration for his work to realize this. The result is a surprisingly sensitive portrayal of two men’s complicated emotional bond, which just so happens to only be solvable on the ring. The boxing is not the main character here, but actually a vehicle the protagonists find to express grievances and trauma so tangled they can’t properly be translated into words.

The climax of the film is a boxing sequence that is essentially a stand-in for an emotional confrontation, elevated by Jordan with a style that’s both impressionistic and surrealistic. It’s an exterior depiction of a fight that is as psychological as it is physical for Adonis and Damian, and which, despite almost entirely borrowed from Jordan’s favorite anime series, is no less gutsy to apply on a directorial debut.

Jordan’s clear vision for Creed III is hindered by a couple of melodramatic crutches that are typical of the genre, and constant, incredibly distracting and tacky product placements throughout. Small faults in what is otherwise a self-assured, confident, and refreshingly vulnerable sports epic. The actor and filmmaker is dead serious about his craft, and it’s great to watch.

‘Creed III’ star Tessa Thompson remarks on the film’s championing of relationships https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/news/creed-iii-star-tessa-thompson-remarks-on-the-films-championing-of-relationships/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/news/creed-iii-star-tessa-thompson-remarks-on-the-films-championing-of-relationships/#respond Tue, 28 Feb 2023 00:21:42 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1436513 Tessa Thompson is opening up about the relationships in the 'Creed' movie franchise and how important they are in the storytelling process. ]]>

Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson know a thing or two about relationships, and as they embark together upon Creed III, they’ve grown in their professional and personal bonds together. It’s always apparent when viewers tune into a film if the cast and crew have formed connections of their own, and it’s clear that the Creed franchise has created lasting ones.

During a press conference for Creed III, Thompson spoke about how the heart of the films is truly in the relationships they showcase.

“I think the thing that I love about these films so much, and particularly in the first one, you really get to see Rocky and Adonis and Bianca make a little chosen family, you know? And that is the reality for a lot of folks. And so I think what I love about these films is they’re about relationships.”

It seems the easiest to understand the notion, yet it’s easily one of the most frequently overlooked — everything we do in this life deals with relationships. We are working through a series of connections at every twist, turn, up, and down of our lives. We’re in bonds with friends, loved ones, co-workers, and even those we share an experience with once; connections are formed, and they all have a way of shaping us.

Thompson says that the relationships, in all forms, are the film’s crux — and she loves what each one brings to the table. Of course, she particularly enjoys working with Jordan on the film, pressing forward across several chapters together. They get to love one another through them, as friends off-screen and partners within the film. Adonis and Bianca (Jordan and Thompson, respectively) will need one another more than ever before as our favorite boxer faces his most emotional rivalry yet, stepping into the ring against his childhood best friend, Damian.

“The relationship between mentor and mentee. The relationship between father and son, whether chosen or blood. The relationship between parents. The relationship between, you know, folks that have history, that can stand to learn from each other and unpack their trauma. So I love that I get to exist in this with Mike and that we get to push each other and love each other in the context of these films, and individually as friends. But I think it’s really about whoever your partner is, whoever is in the ring, the proverbial ring with you. And that can take on so many forms. And sometimes, it’s just you in the ring alone, and that’s okay too.”

Of course, there are times in our lives when the relationship propelling us forward is the one we’re examining within ourselves, and Thompson says that’s okay too. When we face ourselves in the ring, we can learn the most regarding what we’re capable of and what we’ll allow when we face adversaries.

You can examine these relationships and more in Creed III when it hits theaters on March 3, and you won’t want to miss a second of it.

Jordan's friendship dates as far back as 2013, when they worked on the film ‘Fruitvale Station.’]]>

Director Ryan Coogler shared what it was like to see his friend Michael B. Jordan make his directorial debut on the highly anticipated Creed III.

Coogler and Jordan’s friendship dates as far back as 2013, when they worked on the film Fruitvale Station, a biographical feature about the life and tragic ing of Oscar Grant. Since then, the pair have collaborated on numerous projects, many of which Coogler directed, including the Black Panther and Creed franchises.

During a recent press conference for Creed III, Coogler expressed that he experienced “a different type of joy” seeing Jordan direct the project and exceed at it despite it being the 36-year-old’s first time. He said,

“You know, and what was best about working with him when we first started has shifted now. I mean, now, not it’s the fact that I know him, you know, really, really well. So I think it’s a added color that comes with that. So when you know somebody and you see him doing something new and excel at it, it gives you a different type of joy.”

Later, Coogler shares the timeline of Jordan’s transition to becoming a filmmaker by recalling the first moments he met the star. The Judas and the Black Messiah director explained,

“Like, when I first met him, I knew he could act, you know what I’m saying? So it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, man, Mike did a great job acting.’ Like, it’s not a surprise, you know? But now in seeing him, oh, committee do a sports film? You know. Can he do a action movie? You know what I mean? Can he direct? You know, like and seeing the growth and the shifts and seeing him knock it out of the park in each thing, not without struggles. You know what I’m saying? Not without going to the mat and having to get back up. And so, like to see this happen and it be affirmed, that suspicion I have about this creative, you know, 10 years later, it’s like, aw, yeah, he had it in him. And that’s fantastic.”

Creed III is already receiving a mostly positive reception from critics, although the motion picture has yet to be released in theaters. As previously reported by We Got This Covered, the reasons stemmed from how the film captures “vulnerability and drama both inside and outside of the ring.”

In Creed III, Jordan’s character Adonis Creed’s childhood friend Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors), pops back up in the boxer’s life after he is released from prison. This joyful reunion doesn’t last long after Anderson attempts to fight Creed to get an opportunity to advance his career. The film also stars Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, Phylicia Rashad, Mila Davis-Kent, Jose Benavidez, Selenis Leyva, Florian Munteanu, and Tony Bellew.

Creed III will make its theatrical debut on March 3.

Jonathan Majors recently discussed during a press conference for Creed III about how the inspiration behind his portrayal of Damian Anderson in the film hits so close to home.

In Creed III, Anderson is an old friend of Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) who was recently released from prison and is trying to get his shot in the ring by going up against the popular boxer.

Majors revealed the reason why it was easy to play Anderson was because the character reminded him of his stepfather, Joe, and his hardships. The 33-year-old opened up that Joe was incarcerated for 15 years for an unidentified crime. Majors expressed that after his stepfather was released from prison, he searched for “the idea of freedom” as he transitioned back to real life. The actor said,

“In a nutshell, first and foremost, it was my stepfather. The idea of freedom that I spoke about earlier. My stepdad was locked up 15 years before he got with my mom and then raised me up.”

Further in the conversation, Majors shared that following Joe’s incarceration, he tried out for the Dallas Cowboys team and almost made it to the league. The Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star disclosed that his stepfather’s drive “to be more free” inspired his character. Majors explained,

My stepdad also, yeah, Joe, I’m gonna say his name, he tried out for the Dallas Cowboys. I’m from Dallas. And almost made it to the Cowboys. He was in the second round, right? I watched that aspiration. I watched that hustle. You know, I watched that dream that he had. There’s a big part about that. That big, hard shell. You know, that young boy in it that had the aspirations to be more, to be free.”

In addition to sharing details about his character in the press conference, Majors also recently talked about the overall theme for Creed III. In the same event, Majors said that throughout the film, which is Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut, viewers will see the concept shift from “physical and mental freedom” to the significance of “brotherhood.” The motion picture will star Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, Phylicia Rashad, Woody Harris, and others.

Creed III is set to premiere in theaters on March 3.

The premiere of Creed III will mark a significant moment for actor Michael B. Jordan, who not only stars in the sports drama, but also directs it. During a recent press conference for the film’s third installment attended by We Got This Covered, the Hollywood veteran opened up about making his directorial debut and how longtime friend and collaborator, director Ryan Coogler “definitely had a lot to do with” getting him behind the camera.

Jordan and Coogler’s working relationship began following their breakthrough movie Fruitvale Station and continued to flourish with other releases, including Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Coogler also directed the first Creed film and produced the sequel.

“I think he told me that I could direct,” Jordan recalled of his conversations with the Academy Award-nominated filmmaker. The 36-year-old itted Coogler’s presence ired him, and how he maneuvered as a director, telling reporters, “You know, I think there was a moment where, you know, I was in awe of what he was doing,”

Jordan continued, “You know, seeing a Black man my age, somebody I knew well, or getting to know at that time, commands a set. You know, in ‘Fruitvale Station.’ You know, and what was possible.”

Jordan told reporters that Coogler’s encouraging words, “Mike, you can do this too,” initially planted the seed in the actor’s mind that “maybe I could direct one day.” Still, the Without Remorse star itted that he wasn’t sure what exactly he’d direct even with the newfound .

“I didn’t know what it was gonna be. I didn’t know what movie I was gonna step behind the camera on,” he shared. “But as, you know, we did Creed, and, you know, Creed II came along. Steven [Caple Jr.] jumped into the director’s chair and had that experience. And as we kinda grew, the third one just seemed like it was the perfect time for me to step behind the camera and from, you know, internally with myself or Winkler being, you know, another one as well. My manager. You know, just talked to some people that I really respect.”

Creed III comes to theaters on March 3, 2023 and follows Jordan’s character Adonis Creed, who is still dominating the boxing world and thriving in his career and family life, but all that changes when a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian, resurfaces. Naturally, the old pal is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. However, a face-off between former friends soon turns out to be more than just a fight.

The movie is directed and stars Jordan, alongside Jonathan Majors, Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, Phylicia Rashad, Spencer Moore II, and many more.

Actress Tessa Thompson recently shared why she was adamant about changing her Creed character’s arc in the film’s third installment.

In 2015, at the franchise’s start, fans were introduced to Thompson’s character Bianca Taylor. Taylor is a singer with a hearing impairment who ultimately falls in love with boxer Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). As the franchise progressed, Thompson and Jordan’s characters‘ lives gradually transitioned as they married and became parents.

During a press conference attended by We Got This Covered for the highly anticipated release of Creed III, Thompson stated that she was interested in seeing her character’s arc soften — despite previously having a “tough and guarded” exterior in the past — over time because of the overall changes she has gone through in the film. The 39-year-old mentioned how she addressed this to Jordan and Creed director Ryan Coogler,

“I actually was really interested in this time around getting to see a softening from her. I think something that’s always been interesting, and I Ryan and I would have conversations on the first one, was like chipping away at this exterior that was outwardly very, very tough and guarded, in a way. And I think over the course of the films, we’ve seen that soften. I think motherhood is something that has softened her tremendously. But I felt very grateful because there was an idea that I had to Mike, you know, of him saying to Bianca, you know, that your emotions, for example, come so easy to you.”

Later, Thompson listed another reason why it was essential to have the character changes in Taylor was because she wanted to show viewers how hard it is to, at times, be the “backbone” of the family, especially as a Black woman with a high-profile partner. Thompson shared that because stereotypically, Black women in society are often looked to as strong individuals, many people disregard that sometimes having that strong exterior doesn’t come easy. The Thor: Love & Thunder star explained:

“And this idea of her actually being, like, no, it’s actually challenging. This is challenging for me. It’s not easy for me. And I think so often there is this idea, particularly of Black womanhood, that has to do with strength. That we are the pillars of our community. That we are the backbones of our family. That we lift our men up. And that’s beautiful. And that is very often true. And also, it is not, not hard-earned. You know? And it’s not easy. And I really wanted her to have the opportunity to say that. And I felt very grateful that Mike felt open to it, and, you know, was like, ‘Can I try this">Jordan making his directorial debut, and this will be the first Creed film without actor Sylvester Stallone.

Creed III is set to debut in theaters on March 3.

Creed III lands this week, and we just can’t wait. The Rocky spinoff series has been hitting it out of the park since 2015, and we’re eager to catch up with Adonis and see him squaring off Jonathan Majors’ Damian “Dame” Andersen. There are a few important firsts for this third entry: Sylvester Stallone won’t be returning as Rocky Balboa (though he’s still an executive producer), and it marks Michael B. Jordan’s feature film debut as a director.

Ryan Coogler and Steven Caple Jr. left some big shoes to fill in that department, though the trailers indicate we’re in for another punishing and emotional boxing saga that won’t pull any punches. We Got This Covered attended the press conference for Creed III, where Jordan went into detail on what it’s like to step behind the camera and call the shots:

“I think there’s a little bit of that that you spend in your head. And I think something you start to realize is that it’s just showing up and being honest every day. Then slowly your style will start to shape itself. I can’t even tell you what it is right now. But now that the movie is done and finished with, I think that is a representation of just my truth. Things that compile things that I watch. Things that I like to look at. Things that move me in an emotional way, in a visual way.”

He went on to praise the film’s director of photography Kramer Morgenthau:

“With Kramer Morgenthau, it’s our third film that we’ve worked on together. We have a shorthand. He understands the vision that I’m trying to accomplish. And then there’s me taking swings. There’s some scenes, the shots in the movie that I’ve dreamt about. Literally, I’ve dreamt about. I’ve imagined, daydreamed in my head, and when you see it on screen, I’m like, “Oh, man.” The type of gratification you get out of that is crazy.”

Jordan is well-known as a big anime fan and has referenced Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and My Hero Academia as inspirations for how he approached the fight scenes.

Early indications are that he’s succeeded. Creed III is currently sitting at a 90 percent positive rating on the Tomatometer, with critics describing the fight choreography as not just exceeding the previous Creed movies, but being the best the Rocky franchise has ever seen.

Though Creed III isn’t a visual effects extravaganza like Avatar: The Way of Water, this is still one to catch in theaters rather than at home. The Rocky and Creed movies always benefit from watching with a live audience, as it’s difficult to resist cheering along with the crowd as the fights reach their physical and emotional crescendo.

Creed III hits theaters on Mar. 3.

‘Black Panther’ star in $120m deal to get ahead of Ryan Reynolds in the race for the Premier League https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/celebrities/black-panther-star-in-120m-deal-to-get-ahead-of-ryan-reynolds-in-the-race-for-the-premier-league/ https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/celebrities/black-panther-star-in-120m-deal-to-get-ahead-of-ryan-reynolds-in-the-race-for-the-premier-league/#respond Tue, 13 Dec 2022 13:08:08 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.sitesunblocked.org/?p=1373748 Buying British soccer teams is clearly the hot new thing in Hollywood.]]>

It seems the hot new thing in Hollywood is buying British soccer teams. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney delighted fans and confused the world by purchasing the tiny Welsh team Wrexham AFC in November 2020, proceeding to make the excellent docies called Welcome to Wrexham about the experience over the summer. Now Black Panther and Creed star Michael. B. Jordan has ed the party by becoming part owner of AFC Bournemouth in a £100 million deal (roughly $150 million).

The story was broken by Sky Sports News, which reports that Jordan is now part owner of the club:

AFC Bournemouth has a history stretching back to the end of the 19th century when it first began playing under the name Boscombe. Known as “The Cherries”, the club has traditionally occupied the mid-leagues of British professional football, though in recent years, has made it to the Premier League. It suffered relegation in 2020, but after scoring a runner-up spot in 2022, has returned to top-flight football.

The mood at the club seems jubilant:

Right now, it’s having a middling-to-poor season and sits at 16th in the Premier League tables with 16 points after 15 matches played. Fans will be hoping the touch of stardust that Jordan will bring to the club will reinvigorate its performance on the pitch and potentially build a whole new fan base on the other side of the Atlantic.

Jordan is yet to comment directly on the purchase, but Bill Foley, Managing General Partner of Black Knight Football, has said:

“I have tremendous respect for the ion and the Bournemouth community shows for this club and believe that connection to the community is the foundation for success of any sports team. We will move forward with an ‘always advance, never retreat’ approach that has defined all of my endeavours. I am committed to work with the best football and business minds available to enhance player development, facilities, and the fan experience to put AFC Bournemouth in the best possible position to succeed.”

More on this story as we hear it.
