‘You can’t stay here’: Woman’s first night in Mexico takes unexpected turn when she realizes she’s sharing her room with a furry friend

Such a cute roommate, where can I get one?

Sharing a room when in a different country can be a stressful experience, you just never know who, or what, you’re going to end up with. Well one woman on TikTok might take the cake for the strangest roommate as she arrived at her hotel room to find a coatimundi sitting on the bed.

If you’re wondering what exactly a coatimundi is, don’t worry, you’re about to find out. The clip which has just under two million views was posted by , “itsmissohio,” who is holidaying or perhaps travelling in Mexico, there’s not a whole lot of context in the video, but it doesn’t matter, what does matter is the coatimundi who’s just chilling on one of the beds in the room.

@itsmissohio

I love how he’s so calm like “heyyyy welcome. mind if I crash here? this bed sure is comfortable.”

All things considered, the interaction seems very cordial. The coati seems like a pretty chill guy or girl to me, they aren’t bothering anybody. They even got up and left when asked to, you can’t get much more polite than that to be honest. But rules are rules, you have to pay for a room and it’s immediately obvious that this coati does not have a wallet or purse on their person therefore they must be evicted.

Are coatimundis dangerous?

While coatis can be found in countries like the U.S. they aren’t exactly a common sight across the globe so it makes sense that this woman was a little wary as it’s not immediately if the animal is a furry friend or a furry foe. In the comments many criticized the woman for not stroking the wild animal, one person wrote, “What do you do? You cuddle mam. That’s all.” Another added, “the amount of anger I felt when u kicking him out.”

Of course, as cute as the little critter may be, kicking it out was probably the right move, despite what all the TikTok comments might be saying. Just because it’s cute doesn’t mean it doesn’t pose a threat to humans. There’s a probability the coati was carrying fleas, one commenter claimed “they can carry FATAL parasites.” Perhaps it would be a good idea to burn those bed sheets. Bribing a coati with food is not a great idea either as feeding wildlife can be harmful to the animal’s health.

As for the actual danger these little guys pose, according to azstateparks.com they are “generally not aggressive towards humans,” although “they can become aggressive if they feel threatened or cornered.”

So there you have it, you’d either have to be a little brave or a little stupid to approach a coati, but then again, they’re so cute it would be kind of hard to resist.
