‘We got this on camera’: Homeowner solves stubborn lawn problem by digging deeper. Then makes shocking discovery

Probably easier to just pave over that patch of lawn to be honest.

Gardening is a challenging activity — there are more pitfalls and obstacles than you might expect. Even something as simple as growing grass can cause a major headache as one man on TikTok discovered.

Recommended Videos

Thelawntools is a popular gardening page with over 2 million followers and run by a guy with a ion for gardening. In a now viral video (with over 45 million views) he discovered a patch of lawn where grass seemingly refused to grow. Prodding it with a screwdriver it was immediately obvious that there was something under the surface that was causing this bald patch in the otherwise lush green lawn.

So what was this mysterious underground object that was causing all this pain? Was it buried treasure? A secret bunker? Something else entirely? There was only one way to find out, and that was to dig and dig, like this was some kind of IRL Minecraft adventure.

The root of the problem revealed

Turns out the mysterious object preventing Mr. Lawntools grass from taking root was a massive boulder. In fact, the boulder is so big that even a team of big, strong, gardeners wouldn’t have been able to lift it out of the ground. In the end it required an actual excavator to remove the whole thing.

Of course, removing the rock left a massive hole in the middle of the guy’s lawn. Most normal people would have probably just accepted that their lawn would forever have a patch of dead grass in the center, but not this guy, this guy took it upon himself to show this rock who’s boss and he came out on top, literally.

The clip has made the rounds on other social media sites too. The video also went viral on X, accumulating another 24.5 million views. Turns out people are really interested in rocks and grass apparently.

Some viewers believed it might have been a tad overkill, one person commented, “Bro destroyed the rest of his lawn for one patch.” Another was concerned about whether or not a permit was obtained beforehand, writing, “Glad we got this on camera. Did he have a permit? If I was the HOA I would send this in to the municipality for a review.” We all know how much those pesky HOAs love to interfere.

Regardless of what people think, thelawntools guy seems like he knows what he’s doing. His TikTok page has all kinds of useful tips and tricks for maintaining lawns. On the bright side I guess he was lucky that it was only a boulder and not a stash of radioactive waste barrels or something like that.
