‘I get to pay bills’: Reese Witherspoon praises a ‘Sharknado 4’ star for his inspiring message, but not everyone’s day has been made

No matter how you reframe it, some things still suck ...

Steve Guttenberg online (the same guy who appeared in classics like Police Academy, Three Men and a Baby, and Short Circuit, and yes, he made a cameo in Sharknado 4).

His advice impressed Witherspoon, so she repeated it for her followers. “He was waiting for a train at the train station and he said, ‘you know, I decided this morning instead of saying I have to wait for the train … I get to wait for the train,’” Witherspoon said.

Witherspoon continued to share Guttenberg’s positive outlook on life: “I get to wake up in the morning, and I get to shower myself. I get to pick out my own clothes, and I get to go somewhere really special for lunch, and I get to have lunch with my friend. I get to go home, and I get to get into my cozy bed.” This mindset inspired the actress as she recognized it was “such a nice way to reframe things towards the positive.” And they’re both right! Ideally, we should all strive to see the silver lining in situations, and there are many things to be grateful for, except the reality is we cannot always be so positive or grateful for the things we get to do when the bills are stacking up.

Many people have been moved by Reese Witherspoon’s retelling of Steve Guttenberg’s advice. She speaks beautifully and with emotion, and the comments on her video reflect this. “That’s how you fix anxious thought. Change ‘what if’ to ‘even if.’ Life changing,” a comment reads. “I agree! I always liked her and Steve Guttenberg!” another person shared.

Other reactions include “Counting the blessings! It is a beautiful way to reframe your life! Thanks for the reminder,” and “I get to see your bright smile today….”

However, not everyone is feeling so grateful. “I get to pay bills,” a comment reads. The comment has been liked over 4,000 times and made some people giggle. It has also encouraged responses from people who have a similar outlook. These comments include: “I’m grateful to be a slave to society,” “I get to have a colonoscopy,” and “Right. When you’re not wealthy you have to do things to survive. They get to enjoy their lives.” Some people have tried reframing this as a positive, but not everyone is buying it!
