Diplo’s Latest Track Will Set You Free

Bass music tastemaker and occasional provocateur Diplo has been on something of a releasing spree lately. Last week he released a MØ collaboration that failed to live up to what she delivered on Major Lazer and DJ Snake's "Lean On" - but this week's LIZ collaboration, "Set Me Free," has turned out to be somewhat more palatable.

There are unmistakeable sound design similarities between this track and “Too Original,” which Diplo released through his Major Lazer project. Bouncy, kazoo-like synths aside, though, LIZ’ invigorating vocals and an upbeat rave piano melody make for an inviting exploration of the Diplo sound, which leans more towards EDM than hip-hop or bass music.

Considering that Diplo has been exploring a wider stylistic range recently – as evidenced by his overwhelmingly housey Sleepy Tom collaboration – it stands to reason that fans can expect more tracks like “Set Me Free” from him in the months to follow.
