Keanu Reeves’ famed assassin has a whole load of problems on his plate, and going by the new trailer for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, he intends to put a bullet in every one of them.
In an interview last December, director Chad Stahelski mentioned that the threequel’s kill count will “land slightly north” of the figures of his first two outings, and this latest preview almost beats that record on its own. In the words of Wick himself, our hero needs “guns – lots of guns,” and it looks like Ian McShane’s character Winston is happy to provide, setting the killer up for a rampage that seems to send him across multiple continents.
As the ending of John Wick: Chapter 2 made clear, pretty much the entire international assassin community is now out to get John. Even Halle Berry’s character Sofia – one of the few allies that he still has left – takes a shot at Wick upon seeing him, while his friend The Director, played by Anjelica Huston, doesn’t seem too optimistic about his chances of escaping.
Still, if this is to be John’s last stand, then he’s going out with all the style we expect from these films. Among the eye-popping set pieces that the trailer teases is a sequence of Reeves riding horseback through New York while shooting motorcyclists, as well as a scene where Sofia sicks her dogs on some armed goons. This time, it seems the canines are fighting back, though the movie hasn’t forgotten the injustice that started this whole mess.
“All of this for what?” asks The Director. “Because of a puppy?” You’re goddam right, and we’ll see how our hero ends this journey when John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum hits theaters on May 17th, 2019.
