Players who persevered through the turbulent, glitch-ridden launch of Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be entitled to free DLC, Ubisoft has confirmed.

Dead Kings, the single-player expansion in question, takes place after the events of the core campaign and though it’s still without a release date at this time, it’s still a nice sentiment for those early adopters who were left frustrated by the sequel’s many issues.

In a statement, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal Yannis Mallat released the following message to the community, and assured fans that the development team are just as disappointed as the players.

“Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.

“To show our appreciation for your continued , we’re making the Assassin’s Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone. For Season holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free. More details on the offer for Season holders can be found here: AC Unity FAQ.”

The third patch for Assassin’s Creed: Unity is due to go live by the end of this week and will look to address bugs lurking within the animation systems and network glitches. According to the studio, the majority of game-breaking issues have been rectified at this point, meaning the latest update is designed more to fine-tune and tweak any loose screws within Unity’s sprawling open-world.

For more details on the specifics of the game’s latest patch, you can head on over to Ubisoft’s official blog.
