Diddy is trying to plead temporary insanity during alleged crimes

Diddy's defense claims impaired mental capacity due to substance use during alleged crimes.

Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ legal team is using a new and unusual defense strategy in the trial, where he faces serious accusations. The defense plans to bring in an expert witness who will argue that Diddy’s mental state was severely affected at the time of the alleged crimes because he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. However, the prosecution strongly disagrees with this approach.

As reported by TMZ, a key part of the defense’s strategy is the testimony of a Columbia University professor, who is being presented as an expert on how drug and alcohol abuse can impair a person’s thinking. The defense wants to use this expert’s testimony to show that Diddy’s mental state at the time of the alleged incidents could affect whether he is found guilty.

While specific details about Diddy’s alleged condition are hidden in court records, the prosecution’s documents suggest the testimony will focus on Diddy’s reported drug and alcohol use. The defense’s argument is that his impaired state made it difficult for him to form the intent needed to commit the alleged crimes.

Diddy wants to claim the drugs and alcohol made him commit crimes

The prosecution, however, is fighting hard against this defense. They say the defense did not give proper legal notice about their plan to introduce evidence about how drugs and alcohol might have affected Diddy’s memory or mental function. They also argue that the expert’s testimony should not be allowed because the expert never actually examined Diddy.

This means the expert’s opinion would be based on general knowledge about substance abuse, not on a direct evaluation of Diddy’s condition at the time of the alleged crimes. The prosecution claims this makes the testimony invalid. Another problem for the defense is the nature of the accusations.

The charges claim that Diddy intentionally drugged his victims, which suggests planning and control, goes against the defense’s argument that he was mentally impaired. The prosecution argues that even if Diddy was drunk or high, it doesn’t change the fact that the alleged crimes happened, especially since he is accused of giving drugs to others.

They say the expert’s opinion on whether Diddy was “lucid” doesn’t matter when it comes to deciding if he is guilty of these accusations. In addition to challenging the mental capacity defense, the prosecution is also trying to stop a forensic video expert from testifying. This expert’s testimony is about a video that shows an alleged assault, which the judge has already said can be used as evidence.
